I know I'm in the minority, massively. But I hate Waif Fu. You can't have a model kick ass. It looks dumb to see someone 100 pounds barely holding a gun half the size of her while she smiles nonchalantly. Or do fluttery strikes that couldn't move a heavy bag, that somehow propel people through walls. It's just... dumb. Hire real women with muscles. Damnit. It has been a while since I watched any of them (and to be honest, I skipped the last couple), but I vaguely remember Milla Jovovich getting fairly ripped for at least two of the movies. Granted, not as ripped as Jessica Biel in Blade: Trinity, but she didn't look like she'd spent the previous six months starving either. Plus, she's very proficient in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, taekwando, and kickboxing. Supermodel or not, she's not someone I would pick a fight with.

I'll be honest. I didn't want to see a generic action film. I was hoping to see a survival horror movie. It certainly is an interesting idea and I was wondering how the director would handle it.
RE1 was very disappointing. If you had seen ALIENS. You have already seen it done better. RE2 was just stupid, and I was sorry they went down the path they did.
I'll pass on seeing the other 3 thanks.
A huge opportunity for a great, possibly iconic, original movie wasted.

AHNULD and Stallone didn't have to get nepotism'd into being a badass. (I know there are cases of them writing/directing their own movies, but that was long after they were established.) For what it's worth, and it has no real bearing on the rest of the discussion, while he had bit parts beforehand, Stallone got established with Rocky, a film he wrote. He also wrote the next film he was in, F.I.S.T., and then wrote and directed his third and fourth films (Paradise Alley, Rocky II, respectively). Ah-nuld has never written a produced script and his only writing credits are for an episode of Tales from the Crypt and a made-for-television movie nobody remembers (Christmas in Connecticut).

I guess I'm in the minority but I find the series very enjoyable. Don't have any real issues with it.

Milla Jovovich is the HHH of action movies. 5th Element, Resident Evils, Three Musketeers...there is a link in all these movies.
As far as RE goes... The one where they're in the prison? The shower room fight between Baghead/Claire and Alice...Claire pulls a miracle move, takes him down and I thought "Wow...someone else is getting the rub?" NOPE! Baghead rises, Claire looks panicked and friggin' Alice rises up and saves the day. It was then I uttered "F these films."

Whats overlooked IMO is the action centric influence that I think the RE films had on the gameplay of later Resident Evil games

Almost NO ONE is allowed to look competent or get anything done except for Alice.

Wesker aside, if they are a character from the games, they are made to look downright weak as f*** compared to Alice.

RE4 was a product of Shinji Mikami deciding to move away from the traditional formula, and I seriously doubt an American B-movie is what prompted that change.

At this point they're really going out of their way to show that absolutely everyone but Alice is useless. Seriously, Milla Jovovich's character in The Fifth Element was less of a Mary Sue and she was literally the Universe's only hope in that one.
