Again, I wouldn't be surprised if this winds up completely killing Stewart's passion for motorsports which would be a damn shame since he's been such an advocate of the local level guys and racing in general, but I can understand.
It also sounds like from a lot of the stories that Tony doesn't really have much of a support system and it's shown one of the downsides of being more of a loner-type personality when this stuff happens...

Well race FANs, the first part of the Chase Grid ends today. After this, the field of 16 goes down to 12. And they're gonna have to tame the Monster Mile if they wanna move on. It's time to separate the contenders from the pretenders, so reach up and pull those belts tight ONE MORE TIME!!!!!!!

Jeff Gordon wins at the Monster Mile. And the drivers eliminated are AJ Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Aric Almirola.

Great move from Penske, Pag has been one of the best drivers in the field for the past two years and deserves a top quality seat like this, plus in the process it makes Ganassi realise their mistake in not signing him last year as Dario's replacement and going for the overrated Briscoe instead. As for the Dover race yesterday I'm not too surprised with the eliminations, Kurt has been disappointing aside from that great Martinsville win, AJ and Aric were always going to be nothing more then first round fodder and Roush have been so poor this year that it's no surprise to see Biff fall. The one person who is going to be annoyed though is Kyle Larson, he'd be in the Chase in the old format and has had a brilliant machine in these last three races.

Ganassi was the team that had to replace Dario, and they replaced him with Tony Kanaan. Ryan Briscoe came in as a 4th car after Graham Rahal left the team.
Penske is going to be even tougher to beat than they usually are next season. The four drivers finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the championship in 2014.

As happy as I am for Pag to get one of the top four seats in Indycar, I feel bad for SPM. They're my favorite small team in Indycar; it sucks to see their ace go to Penske. With that said though, I hope Hinch takes that open spot.

I missed out a word in my post, and technically Kanaan wasn't Darios replacement since he was initially brought in to take the #8 drive and then got bumped up to the #10 after Darios crash. Kanaan and Briscoe going to Ganassi really frustrated me, don't get me wrong both are good drivers but Indy at that point had such a good influx of young drivers in the sport but we're being held back from the big drivers because of the aging veterans hogging the big name drives, Darios accident offered a rare chance for a youngster to take one of those rare seats and instead they went for someone who really only had one good season in 09 and is best known really for crashing into Danica at Indy, and last year didnt set the world alight either. If I was the I would have given the drive to Pag, Newgarden or even Simona, young drivers who showed skill in less impressive machines and had the potential to thrive in high quality machinery.

F1 silly season news!
Kvyat to Red Bull in 2015, replacing Vettel, who's presumably going to Ferrari to replace Alonso, who's presumably going to McLaren... to replace whom? If I had to guess, Button's out.

Developing situation at the F1 race in Japan with a possible serious injury for Jules Bianchi, having reportedly crashed into a crane that was recovering another crashed car in the very wet conditions. Things are very murky at the moment, but hopefully things will be OK.

Yeah, I was wondering why the sudden red flag and cancellation of the race. At first, I thought it was weather related, but this just sounds awful.

Latest reports are that Bianchi is in serious condition. That's all I've seen on twitter.

Bianchi was taken to hospital with a "severe head injury" (as described by the official FIA statement). Critical condition, the last I heard was that the doctors were operating on him and he is to be moved to intensive care afterwards.
What a dreadful accident, hopefully Bianchi makes a full recovery. I don't know why FIA's head of race control, Charlie Whiting, didn't just send out the safety car as soon as Sutil went into the wall at the Dunlop curve; he must have known that the conditions were getting worse with the heavy rain and that there's a risk that another car might crash at the same corner when the marshals and tractor are removing Sutil's car. The marshals did wave double yellows and Bianchi apparently didn't slow down enough, but in this situation the full-course caution would have been the way to go. I hope this has a better ending than the last time I saw such a horrible crash on a live broadcast (Las Vegas IndyCar race in 2011, where Dan Wheldon was killed).
edit: holy f***ing shit I just saw pictures of the immediate aftermath of the crash, the entire roll hoop of the car is GONE. The fact Bianchi even has a head for doctors to operate on at this point is a miracle in itself.

Yeah the general consensus is that the safety car should've been deployed immediately after Sutil spun off, and he himself said that.
Newest update is Bianchi is out of surgery and is now in ICU but no life support is needed.

Latest on Bianchi is that he's in a critical but stable condition, having suffered a "diffuse axonal" injury to his brain. Having looked it up... It does not sound good for the worst case scenario.
