Before I start, I'm only saying this once. I'm tired of people trying to skirt around the political and religious rule we have. This topic CAN be discussed without mentioning those two topics. If I see ANY political or religious talk here, you're getting a warning AND a week off to read over the rules. Please don't make me regret making this thread. www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/hollywood-actress-ellen-page-gay-article-1.1615251Personally I thought it was already known she was gay. Maybe I could tell. I dunno.

I didn't know she was gay, but if she was deliberately not talking about it, I'm glad she's comfortable enough now to do that. It sucks to feel like you have a secret that you have to keep.

You're just not going to be able to have this topic without discussing the broader context, and the broader context breaks the rules.
Anyway: I'm happy for her.

Hopefully someday Coming out will be commonplace and people won't feel they have to hide their sexuality.

It's strange that I never thought about her possibly being gay, yet when she came out it seemed obvious. Glad that she's happy and hope people take a positive message from it but I long for the day when someone admitting their sexuality is not news.

Maybe I could tell. I dunno. With all do respect how? The only discussion I could see would go like this: Ellen Page is gay. OK. End of thread because anything within the rules, talking about her films, talking about other gay celebs is going to lead towards talking about broader social issues. Social issues that people have opinions based on their personal views on the universe and spirituality and morality. As for politics it is avoidable to talk about them directly for a time, but since politics is the ways that society codefies what we deem right or wrong at the time of the action that can only be avoided for a time. Long and short: Hope this thread stays open, doesn't think it will happen.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsVyBHJrNQw A bit bummed seeing as she's one of my celebrity crushes. But whatevs. Even if she was straight it'd probably be a moot (initially made the Lily Finnerty mistake by typing "mute point"!) point for me anyways (which is why I don't get why any of us get bummed when celebrities are taken off the market/excited when they're single again). I like that she chose Valentine's Day to come out. "I'm a lesbian.....Ladies!" Edit: Before I realized what the "(Take Two)" in the subject line meant, I thought this was Ellen Page's second attempt at coming out. Which made me envision a comical series of events that prevents her from getting the message out. She tries to tweet it, but her wifi is down. She tries to announce it at a previous public gathering, but the sound system craps out......

To me it's not that surprising. She's always seemed very awkward and uncomfortable in her own skin any time I've seen her in interviews and whatnot. Hopefully this helps her relax and be comfortable with herself.

There was a message more important than the three words that everyone has focused in on here. Reading her entire speech, she makes some very good points, my favourite of which being:
"...this world would be a whole lot better if we just made an effort to be less horrible to one another. If we took just 5 minutes to recognize each other’s beauty, instead of attacking each other for our differences. That’s not hard. It’s really an easier and better way to live. And ultimately, it saves lives."

So, in short; Be excellent to each other. {Spoiler}{Spoiler} On a serious note, I had no idea she was gay but I've not been exposed to her much outside of her role in X3 and Beyond Two Souls, even then I just figured she was a bit awkward.

Ok then. Can't really discuss it further without breaking the rules so there you go.

This brings up a question, will she only choose gay characters going forward? It is not as if sexuality was a component of her acting thus far, but this I am genuine curious about.

This brings up a question, will she only choose gay characters going forward? It is not as if there was anything resembling sexual tension in most of her roles (well except for her and Patrick Bateman in Juno... but that was... weird...). She raped Dwight from The Office in the movie "Super", that's some heavy sexual tension there.

I know Rainn Wilson, the actor who played Dwight was in it. But, I remembered that, it never... I dunno, it felt acted. I mean really the only similar scene we have to compare, in mainstream cinema, is that one from Disclosure. So I don't know how to compare.

Straight actors play gay characters all the time. As for roles she had with a sexuality component, what about Mouth to Mouth?
