If they want to protect him from getting injured, fair enough. But have him come out for a promo, at least. Even the Rock did that. Where has he been? What does he think of the new guys? What's changed? What about Del Rio? His Mania title match? His possible opponents at Mania? ANYTHING?
Right now, it's like some mystery man won the Rumble and then doesn't want to talk about it. So strange.

No Batista on the mic or in the ring is a good thing in my book.

I think they're hoping a few weeks without a live crowd booing the holy hell out of him might change fan's perspective of him. But his match with Del Rio is going to be booed so terribly, I don't know how they expect to salvage that.
And yeah, Batista is crazy thin-skinned. As long as I live I'll never forget him whipping off all of us in Pittsburgh as his music played amid an insane chorus of boos.

he isn't involved in anything because he'll be drowned in boos whenever he goes out there. it's not even his fault, really, it's just he came back and everyone else got pushed back down the card at a time when the fans wanted to see other guys more than him. WWE hasn't really made very good use of him. there was definitely a place for him on the card but it's not the place he's in.

I've been pretty vocal about not like Del Rio, but watching his (worked) shoot on Batista was amusing because how true it was.

I actually feel bad for both Batista and Orton. They have been put into this impossible position by Creative, where no matter what they do, even if they execute what they are given to absolute perfection, fans will shit all over it. Rightfully so, mind you. I also have to add that Batista performing ANYTHING from a babyface standpoint is a very dicey prospect. He's just not a likable guy, and never was.

He's Batista. Did he ever go a full year as a wrestler without ending up needing a few months off for injuries? And that was back when he wasn't as old and out-of-shape. They're handling him like glass because that's the only way to keep his body from crumbling into bits before he even makes it to 'Mania. Which is why it was SUCH a brilliant idea to make him win the Rumble and become the #1 contender. Not like anybody would like to SEE the next person in line for a World championship. So basically, WWE doesn't mind Cena being booed, but they do when it comes to Batista? Instead of, oh, I don't know, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT?! With Cena it's unique to him, WWE can spin it (controversy!), plus he has the talent to work with it. I think it's really different for Batista and WWE doesn't want another situation like that. He's gonna have to turn heel. Yeah, as we've seen from Batista infamously throwing a bitch fit at a fan and mocking the crowd, he is completely incapable of handling criticism (so add that to the list of things he's incapable of doing) whereas Cena has the mental fortitude of working through it and, no matter what the Internet claims, remain very popular and successful doing it. I mean, the "worst" Cena has done was posing in front of fans in anti-Cena shirts, and even that was tongue-in-cheek to the point that even said fans played along. And really, it's the one positive I can give to Batista's return: it's finally making people realize how professional Cena really is.

I don't mind Batista being back, but right before Mania and having him win the Rumble was such, SUCH a weird/terrible idea. Him coming back AFTER Mania already as a heel and as The Authority's new chosen one after Randy let them down would have been way better.

you selfish bastards. you're complaining about him not taking time to pretend to fight other guys on television when he's currently saving your lives by GUARDING THE GALAXY. what is wrong with you people? I wanted Chris Pratt to win the Rumble. Randy Orton vs. FBI Agent Bert Macklin in the main event of Wrestlemania= all of the buys.

Thing that bugs me the most is that for all this hype, we don't even know if Batista is even going to be good in Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's funny really, the guy won the freakin' Royal Rumble, and he's hardly on television. He's not being in positive press for the company, the ratings are average at best, and it's Daniel Bryan who's getting all the media interviews. WWE made a BIG mistake by having him win the Rumble, I just hope they can fix that mistake.

They want Batista to walk the red carpet with the belt to get them more press just like The Rock did last year.

I think its smart to make him not wrestle free TV. WWE needs more special attractions that you have to pay for. Be it house show or PPV. Its an old school way of thinking that can be nice when used smartly

If GOTG bombs at the box office, I bet Batista will be put on Superstars duty.

I think somehow WWE thinks Dave having a belt on his shoulder come the release of Guardians of the Galaxy means something. Not realizing that he's like 4th or 5th billing and won't be first pick by studios to promote anything. They might as well have put Punk's belt on Nash before Magic Mike. It's about the same pecking order of stardom. Thank you for summarizing a point that I've been dying to make. When they brought The Rock back last year, it was with the understanding that he was a professional wrestler who kicked Hollywood's doors down and became an A-list movie star. They thought they could catch lightning in a bottle twice, so they bring Batista back, partially (or largely, depending on who you ask) because he has a role in the upcoming Marvel summer blockbuster, despite the fact that it's as a tertiary character behind a tree and a raccoon.

Exactly. The Rock was one of the biggest names in pro wrestling in his original run and worked his way to add "biggest name in Hollywood" to his accolades along with it. He left WWE with a ton of star power and came back with even more. Batista, on the other hand, was a solid talent in his day in WWE, but he wasn't ever a guy you were paying to see. Add to that the fact that he isn't the guy you're paying to see in Guardians of the Galaxy, either, and its painfully obvious how much WWE overestimated his star power, especially by haphazardly throwing him into the elite list of multi-time Rumble winners with Hogan, HBK, Austin and Cena.
