I'm going to toss out something I rarely see talked about: I think HDTV combined more replay (and more angles) during the broadcast totally changed the public's perception of flopping. Things when from "Well, he might have hit him" to flat out "He obviously never touched him yet he's flopping like a fish."
That, and 7 seconds after a flop it's already in animated GIF form and being posted all over the place.

So we waited 12 months, 2,460 regular season games, and three months of playoff basketball to get to exactly where we were last June. Heat vs. Spurs in the NBA Finals. If you'll excuse me, I've got to yawn so hard it breaks my jaw. Because there has never been a rematch from the prior year in any sport or individual event. Growing up a Utah Jazz fan, anyone who things favoritism is anything new doesn't know a goddamn thing about basketball and their opinions of the sport are almost certainly invalid. Jordan f***ing pushed off and he knows it and the Bulls were a bigger and far more annoying dynasty than the Heat. ((Just a touch bitter about my favorite players never getting rings, in case you can't tell )) Of course MJ pushed off, but MJ rules ya know. I do feel sad that Stockton, one of the better PGs of all time and a guy I like a lot, never got a ring...but it was worth it to see Karl Malone ringless.

@wojyahoonba The Indiana Pacers intend to bring back Frank Vogel as coach, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

It's not just that it's a rematch, it's the inevitability of it all. Going back to last October, there were only three teams that stood a chance to advance to the NBA Finals, and those three teams are the ones still playing. There was no point to the regular season because it was just obvious from the outset that Miami would win the East and San Antonio/Oklahoma City would win the West. No other team posed a realistic threat.

No other team posed a realistic threat. If the Clippers don't f*** up at the end of game 5, they could easily be here right now. Miami was the only team with a chance in the East, but there were several teams that could have done it in the West. Because there has never been a rematch from the prior year in any sport or individual event. Doesn't make this one any less yawn-worthy. The series last year was damn good.

That's what I don't get. Last year's Finals were so good. Three of those games ended up being classics. We've actually reached the point to where people hate a team so much you can't even enjoy good basketball?

The series last year was damn good. I'm sure it was. Unfortunately, any 7 game series involving the Spurs and Heat pretty much is the bane of mediocrity to me. Until we get some true new blood champions, it's going to continue to be as predictable to see who reaches the NBA Finals than any. In fact, I'm really contemplating on betting some serious money on Miami next year. I'll be sure to win!! That's what I don't get. Last year's Finals were so good. Three of those games ended up being classics. We've actually reached the point to where people hate a team so much you can't even enjoy good basketball? If I don't like a team, I don't like a team. That's how I've always been programmed as a fan. I can't just enjoy it for "basketball" because it's not engaging to me. Sports has always been good and evil.

Roy Hibbert, who had a rough second half and even worse playoffs, is reportedly available for the right price.

Larry Bird will speak with Frank Vogel on Monday. I'm sure this'll be whether or not he's kept.
On the one hand, he did get us out of the doldrums and into a prime position, but on the other hand, his refusal to adapt may result in him perishing. Plus, he is horrible at handling egos; contrary to what people may say about his locker room attitude, he just doesn't want to be viewed as a jerk. But, such an attitude might have kept Lance Stephenson from getting Rectal-Cranial Inversion Syndrome and prevent Roy Hibbert from getting mopey and downtrodden. The loss of Brian Shaw hurt more than what was led on.
This team is good, and this was LeBron we faced, but you have to be able to rely on everyone, so the fact that the bench couldn't help was troubling. Yet, you want your stars to be dependable and not be swayed so easily into repeating bad habits.
I don't want a gutting of the team, but the removal of three central figures would help.

Vogel isn't the problem and I don't think I've ever heard of a coach getting fired after making it to the Eastern Conference finals and losing to a great team. Even if it was a pretty ugly end. And the players who caused a lot of the problems are expendable.

Well...not the Eastern Conference, but Lionel Hollins got fired from Memphis despite a 50 win season and a Western Conference Finals appearance last year. So such a thing wouldn't be unprecedented.

As a total nerd for basketball history, I'm excited about the prospect of another LeBron vs Duncan finals (2 top 10 all-time players trying to rise up the list with their all-time great dynasties wanting to add another ring), but for as great as the games were last year, I'm not nearly as excited for that as I'd be for a Heat/Thunder finals.
LeBron and Durant are eerily similar to Magic and Bird imo. The skillsets are pretty close to their 80s counterparts, and I think theyre the best 1-2 combo that the league has had since Magic and Larry. Theyve been 1-2 in the MVP several times, with Durant finally winning this year, and they're clearly the two best players in the game. All the rivalry is lacking is more finals series'.
I think Miami would win because theyre a bad matchup for OKC, while San Antonio would stand a much better chance against the Heat, but I'm a sucker for seeing history go down, and more LeBron/Durant finals would be just that. We havent had an amazing head to head superstars-in-their-prime rivalry in ages, and this could be that.
I prefer the Spurs as a team, but I'm rooting for OKC because I want to see LeBron vs Durant again.

If you'll excuse me, I've got to yawn so hard it breaks my jaw. On the flip side- after nearly 12 months, 1,460 games, and 3 months of playoffs on the ice, we ended up with an outcome I don't think anybody predicted in the fall- the NY Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals. More and more, the Penguins-Red Wings 2008-2009 SCF rematches seem like an outlier.

Well congrats San Antonio on going to the NBA Finals. Luckily he's still in the game, but was limping for awhile. And damn, the bench of OKC is pathetic. They're being outscored 37-2.
