A US family and their dog were forced to call police for rescue when a huge cat with "a history of violence" trapped them in a bedroom of their Portland home.
Lux the cat's rampage began Sunday evening when Lee Palmer "kicked [it] in the rear" after it scratched his seven-month-old child's forehead, reports the Oregonian.
That kick sent the cat, a black-and-white male Himalayan, "over the edge".
The family fled to a bedroom to escape its wrath and Palmer called 911 to report their "particular emergency".
"We're trapped in our bedroom. He won't let us out of our door," he told the slightly puzzled dispatcher.
Palmer explained that the "very, very, very, very hostile" cat was "charging" the bedroom door.
"We aren't safe around the cat," he said, adding that the beast "has a history of violence".
Lux can be heard screeching in the background in a recording of Palmer's 911 call.
"I could feel him [the cat] wanting to attack my face," the baby's mother told KGW News.
Sgt Pete Simpson from the Portland Police Bureau said the cat attempted to "flee custody" when police cornered it in the house's kitchen.
"Officers were able to outwit the high-strung Himalayan, who climbed on to the top of the refrigerator, and get a snare around the cat and safely get the cat behind bars in its crate," Sgt Simpson said.
None of the family members needed medical attention after the ordeal.
The family said they "may" get rid of Lux — who weighs 10 kilograms, more than twice the size of the average Himalayan — if its behaviour doesn't improve.
Sgt Simpson said he could not recall a similarly ferocious feline during his 20 years on the force.
