The thread is about silly things that scared you as a kid, not perfectly justifiable, creepy ass shit that creeped you out. Seriously, screw that stupid, nightmare inducing baby. That whole episode had an ominous, dark feeling to it, but he made it 10x worse anytime he was on screen.

Oh, I had some weird ones...mostly to do with television...but there were other sources as well:
I actually LIKED the V of Doom, but the Screen Gems "S From Hell"? Totally different story! I swear, up until I started college, I got chilled by the mere mention of it and couldn't listen to the jingle when TV Tunes/Sounds sites started up. (by now, the actual shows were plastered by Columbia and etc. logos many times over)
By proxy, I feared the "rising buildings" Thames logo at the beginning of Benny Hill because it vaguely sounded like said Screen Gems jingle. Nickelodeon usually cut it off on their versions of Danger Mouse, but imagine what happened one day when they accidentally left it in.
The Paramount "Split Box" logo used to not scare me, but I found it weird. And not the one you think, the one called the "Closet Killer," with the Dominic Frontiere music. That one I liked. The weird one to me was the variant that came after it, with the same visuals but a sped up version of the Blue Mountain music by Lalo Schifrin. I was just shocked to see a changed version of familiar music, and without the blue mountain.
The A.A.P. logo that was put at the beginning of Popeye and Looney Tunes shorts.
The Technical Difficulties/Program Change slides on our local stations, and especially WNEW-5 (now our Fox 5). Something would happen to the tapes, then blackness, then a faded, usually dark still shot would appear to more silence. Then came the elevator music and the creepy voiceover: "We are experiencing operating difficulties. Please stand by," every 30 seconds or so. Same thing with the PC one, except you expect your favorite show to start or even something new, then after the station ID, bam, dark slide, creepy voiceover saying "X will not be seen..." or even worse, "...will NO LONGER be seen." (Two times I clearly remember didn't help, as one was a Three's Company scene that was played in slow speed, the other the One Day At A Time opening at fast speed. I used to have something against accidentally playing records at the wrong speed too.)
Speaking of records, certain labels weirded me out or just plain scared me. The most infamous ones were: Capitol Wonderland (they made lots of Looney Tunes song albums) and Mr. Pickwick. There was also the Rare Earth label. Between this and the above, I dreaded the record player and collection when I was young, and I only liked a select few albums.
The Price is Right losing horns, and its cousins (meaning soundalikes on Blockbusters, Classic Concentration, and others). Also, the Bankrupt whistle on Wheel of Fortune, the Scrabble Stopper sound, and believe it or not, the Whammy at first. Agree about the Tic-Tac-Dough dragon, and that led me to having to have the volume down when the bonus games were played on Joker's Wild and Bullseye too, for fear that they made a noise too (well, the Devil didn't, but the lightning did of course...) And when I was really young, I have a clear memory of seeing the intro to Whew! and being scared by it. When I saw a thread asking if anyone remembered the show on alt.tv.game-shows, I got that chill again. Then I was given an episode and found out that my fears were unwarranted!
The Electric Company intro. You probably know why.
Two Sesame Street skits for sure: the one with the rabbit crossing the street, then an adult rabbit in a car speeds by and says, "Would you be more careful, crossing the street?" in a scary voice. Then there was the evolution of the frog, you know, the one that ends with the frog yelling "Hey, Kermit!" Only I didn't understand what he was saying and got scared as a result.
The sound when you got killed in 2600 Berzerk.
We probably all remember the sound your phone makes if it's been off the line. But I recall a second tone after that being played if you kept it off for too long, one that sounded like a siren. Was it me or does anyone else remember this?
If I was playing with the phone, sometimes I'd accidentally call someone. Then if I heard police sirens outside my house in the distance, I'd get worried that they were being sent after me because of the wrong call.
When I saw Final Bison's Psycho Crusher for the first time in SFA3. Or Mr. Big's final form in NARC, or Helga's in Revolution X.
Oh, am I the only one who played a Mac shareware game called "Fred Rogers, Terrorist"? In the second half of the game, you have to kill everyone in the Neighborhood of Make Believe, and when you get to X the Owl...he is now a "mutated X," a clip art vulture that fills the entire screen and squawks at you. What was worse was, due to a glitch in the game or something, after I killed him, he kept reappearing!

The emergency test signals that come on TV used to scare the shit out of me. I also had a horrible fear of tornados, so any time it was talked about on the weather channel, I would freak out.

-FBI Warning Screens, especially Rhino's with the dramatic music and drawing over the face of J. Edgar Hoover. -The Walt Disney Classics ident and its over-the-top music. -Lucasfilm THX logo, as mentioned earlier. -The Halloween Gracie Films logo on The Simpsons -The end of the Black Hole episode of Ren & Stimpy -Celebrity Deathmatch. I was absolutely TERRIFIED of that show as a kid. -Mortal Kombat fatalities, same as above. The low bass tone at the end of MK2's made it even scarier for me. I was pretty sheltered compared to other kids.
...and speaking of Looney Tunes, the "Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers" short they did in the 80's featuring the "malfunctioning Porky Pig" appearing unannounced during the "That's All, Folks" at the end is still nightmare fuel for me. Like the Rhino FBI Warning, stuff that catches me off guard in conventional places kinda weirds me out, even to this day.

For me it was the Looney Tunes episode where Tweety drinks a Dr Jeckyll/Mr Hyde potion and turns into a deranged, oversized version of himself. The way giant Tweety cackled and lumbered after Sylvester gave me nightmares. How about the rest of you? One of the first nightmares I ever remember having was being chased by the giant Tweety bird. I also remember being scared of Earls boss in dinosaurs the first few times I watched it. Giant Tweety's laugh would make the Jonier piss himself.

The disembodied heads in the Bohemian Rhapsody video.
Green Jelly's Three Little Pigs song. It was the guy's voice that scared me.
The Undertaker.

Drive through car washes. Those big flaps that go over the car freaked me out, and it was dark and an enclosed space. I still remember being a kid and hiding in the space between the front and back seats until I saw daylight.

![](http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20060514151931/muppet/images/7/76/Howardhandupme.jpg) Of all the potentially creepy stuff on "Dinosaurs" (a show I loved as a child and still love today), nothing in my childhood haunted me like Howard Handupme. I think it was the clearness of the video whenever he was onscreen that differed from the way the rest of the show was filmed, as well as how he would always look right at me with those big eyes that seemed to respond to how I moved. That, and we never saw his feet. Infinitely unsettling. I'm somewhat comforted by how many of us were disturbed by different corporate logo bumpers. Interesting that the Viacom "V of Doom" was brought up, because I was always perturbed by the 90s wigga-wigga logo: This logo probably freaked me out the most. Didn't realize it was shoelaces until YEARS later. Thought it was a monster mouse-skeleton-ghost or something: In retrospect, it's probably because I didn't know what Hi-Tops were. I was a slip-ons kid.

Judge Doom.
So much so that until I was like.....12 or so I wouldn't watch ANYTHING with Christopher Lloyd in it.
I'm actually ANGRY at my younger self because I missed out on so many good movies (BTTF mostly)

I still remember being a kid and hiding in the space between the front and back seats until I saw daylight. Same here. My grandparents thought it'd be fun to take me because I was/still am a huge car nut, but I was terrified and ended up hiding in the back seat with my coat over my head. Took me years to get over it. Also, the "Night of the Living Dummy" episode of Goosebumps. I used to love Goosebumps, but that put me off the TV show for ages, even now I still get a bit uneasy when I see pictures of Slappy.

What is this weird fear of brief studio logo jingles? Is it some unexplained phenomenon or something because it seems so strange that it occurs at the frequency it seems to and apparently, from what I can tell, for no reason. What's the science behind it?

I think it has to do with a lot of things. The logo's context within a show/video, musical key changes, abruptness, screwing with convention, juxtaposition of visuals and even the environment one watches in do a lot to affect people.
For example, the Paramount VHS Feature Presentation logo probably wouldn't have done anything to me as a kid if it didn't just quickly fade in out of nowhere and then abruptly crescendo/zoom out to a totally silent FBI Warning screen for the next thirty seconds.
That, and I watched a lot of tapes right before bed when I was little, so that does a lot. Strange that stuff as forgettable as studio logos affected me more than certain movies did.
