That's a pretty gross, sexist, disrespectful thing to say about women's wrestling and I'm pretty bummed out that so many of you are congratulating him for saying it. To be fair, one of the problems with the divas division is that's all they are for the most part. Bret has complimented Nattie as being one of the best lady wrestlers around and talks about her as if she was a wrestler, but like, a lot of the other girls are terrible wrestlers and are out there for people to get boners. It would be great if pro wrestling and WWE in general wasn't sexist, but the fact is, most of the women in WWE have no real purpose other then being looked at as objects. It is sad, and I'm not a fan of it, but keep in mind, there are whole threads on the message board which take single shots and gifs of random body parts of the women. So obviously, that is their purpose, even as seen on this message board. The humour comes from Bret Hart and his general delivery on everything. I've complimented Bret on him being the best panelist they have since they started doing panels because he's so serious and he's so credible. So based on that, having him say that makes it much funnier. Sadly, it's not about women's wrestling. It's about WWE's version of women's wrestling. What should be the outrage is, why are the Bella Twins on television wrestling? Why is Aksana wrestling? And sometimes you get a lot of, oh, she got better. Better, compared to what? People grade on a curve, and I feel myself to be quite the feminist and am very much into women's wrestling and more time to be allocated to it, but the fact is, WWE doesn't have that much talent as far as women go, so why put them on television. There are very talented women out there who are as good as the men, but they're just not used.

The implication of his statement is that the quality of the women's division is directly related to how hot the women are. That this era is better than Moolah's because it makes him horny. And male wrestlers have not spent decades being shoehorned and stereotyped into being considerd by both promoters and fans alike as only good for their looks. Hart's attitude here is a greater symptom of how people in and out of the wrestling business treat female wrestlers. It makes me ashamed to be a wrestling fan that so many of my peers approach women wrestlers with this attitude, and I am incredibly let down that a guy like Bret Hart would say something that degrading about them. Nope, just their size instead. This is not true. Even going strictly by image alone, the male wrestlers that get pushed and promoted are of a large variety of sizes and shapes. More importantly, the Divas(the fact they are even called this is part of the problem) ever since the Attitude era have been promoted as sex objects first, wrestlers second. Even when the WWE's size fetish was at its worst, the show still focused on the men as characters and athletes. The treatment of women's wrestling as a T&A showcase has been a huge problem for a long time, and attitudes like Bret's here do nothing to help. He should know better, and have more respect for his fellow athletes. But women in wrestling aren't afforded the same level of base respect as the men are, even from their peers. It sucks.

My problem with what Bret is saying here, is that he didn't make fun of the WWE for treating women like sex objects. He implied that it is better to treat women like sex objects, and disparaged the era where they were not.

That's pretty much the intent behind the division at this point though. I can't really say I blame them either when the most over performers the division ever had got over due to their effectiveness at poppin' boners. This is probably never going to change.

So in Bret's world, men have to wrestle well, and women have to look good.
Isn't that a typical wrestling fan?

People like Trish, Lita, and currently AJ may have all been part of the objectification to various degrees, but if you think any of them got as over as they did based off looks alone, you're wrong. These women got over because they were given the chance to be in real storylines and develop characters beyond "hot girl". We were able to get a women's match to main event Raw because actual effort was put in. TNA at one point got good ratings from the KO division because actual effort was put in. Bret, or anyone, saying this kind of stuff isn't suddenly okay because WWE management shares the same attitude. People should be challenging this garbage, not promoting it.

The most successful and popular ones are the ones who can wrestle and pop the boners. Think about women in the past ten years or so who (A) Got over, and (B) Were considered good wrestlers. 1. Lita: generally considered a good wrestler, generally considered hot. 2. Trish: generally considered a good wrestler, generally considered hot. 3. Mickie: generally considered a good wrestler, generally considered hot. 4. Melina: generally considered a good wrestler, generally considered hot. 5. AJ: generally considered a good wrestler, generally considered hot. Is that a coincidence? I don't think so. Wrestling (male and female) is highly sexualized, either overtly or as an undertone in the product. John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, etc. have all been highly sexualized and in varying ways. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, though. Sexuality in the material has a role in professional sports and other forms of theater, so there's no reason that wrestling has to be cordoned off from it. And honestly, if a wrestler is sexually attractive, why pretend that they aren't? They tried that with Molly Holly and it pissed a lot of people off.

Dude is married to a black woman. He definitely can still get it up by that info alone. She's a hottie too, definitely more than 4/10! I thought Owen was The Black Hart.

Kelly Kelly would get a pop when her music hit but her matches weren't received very well. Same with Maria. Maryse got absolutely nothing once she was wrestling. Or Layla. There's almost no one who thinks she isn't super hot but she's gotten crickets for most of her career.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that wasn't all he said on the manner. It was probably just an aside quick joke to toss at the end of what was a much longer, much more respectful answer. I mean, it's Bret Hart, who has a reputation of defending and encouraging legit women's wrestling for years. I think, deep down, more than anything it's being celebrated for someone of stature taking a shot against Moolah.

If HHH said this, I wonder how many pages we'd have of people calling him an ass. How many pages until the lock, you mean? Seven to ten. I'm not exaggerating either; Trips was referred to in an interview as cracking down on talent who were using the European tours as a vacation instead of hitting the gym, and the subsequent thread devolved into people accusing him of wanting them all to roid up and be his workout buddies. But, naw, it's cool. Viewing the entire Divas division, which has some good to great wrestlers (and his own niece) among them, as sex objects? A-okay. GOAT comment. So long as he's anti-Triple H and throws a shot at the Game every now and then.

I think I shall refrain from posting further on the subject, I generally don't think those listed are particularly good and I fear that would derail the thread if I continued. I think a selection of current performers are good wrestlers and I always felt that Victoria was fantastic so I'm not completely opposed to womens wrestling but yeah, always felt those listed were a tad over-rated.

They say every time one of the divas rates HHH 4/10, Bret actually has to change his pants.

Bret seems to be both an asshole and totally delusional, but it's still really funny he'd actually say that.
