The same reason Daredevil is still blind, Professor X and Dr. Niles Caulder were almost always in a wheelchair, Freddy Freeman had a spinal injury, and Echo was deaf, it was to show that the character was still capable despite their disables‘. I'm sure she can still gps while sitting in a chair. Her spine doesn't have to be dead for her to be the Oracle DC:But if she's Oracle, who is supposed to be Batgirl, Stephanie Brown? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Like that would ever happen!

She wanted to be in the wheelchair to show she's a strong independent woman. New 52 done changed all that and Gail Simone's yet to give a reason beyond LolDCwantedhertowalkbutIain'tsayinghow. As or Jimmy not knowing who Batman is. It's been said he knows and other times it's said he just doesn't care to know or else he'd be forced to go after them for realzie. It was mentioned somewhere about some kind of magic surgery... very briefly in one of the issues. I really was gonna include that in the post but I figured I imagined it cause of how stoopid that sounds but here we are.

This reminded me, someone made an online comic where a kid asks his dad why Barbara's not in a wheelchair anymore. The dad said she got a reboot. Then the kid asks if he could get a reboot, and the panel shows the little boy's in a wheelchair. Which was kinda heartbreaking.

If he's such a good detective, why don't the motherf***er know that Bruce Wayne is Batman? it's often implied that he does know, but out of respect for Bruce and belief that Batman is too important to Gotham he never says anything. same thing with Perry White at the Daily Planet (Lois too before the New 52 re-imbeciled' her). as for the OP, the reason they didn't un-cripple Babs for a long time is that they wanted a positive role model for people in wheelchairs and didn't want to deal with the backlash of magically fixing it. then they did and there was a backlash. IMO it was kinda insulting, but my main problem is more that Barbara's way too old to be Batgirl. she's outgrown it in the same way Dick outgrew being Robin. and you don't see Dick reaching for the green underoos.

Didio doesn't really care how the fans react as long as he gets his toybox the same as it was when he was 5. it's actually pretty pathetic when you think about it.

It depends on which fans backlash. The fans I saw complaining the most about Barbara Gordon's character regression (and really, that's what it is) were women and/or the disabled...add those fans along with the ones who wanted Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain back in the Bat-Family and you've got a whole bunch of backlash from demos DC doesn't give a shit about. What a way to sell comics.

Oracle is cool, but I actually like the Animated Series canon where she ends up as commissioner in the Beyond universe. I'm one of those people, I guess. I also f***ing love this. But then I'm a mark for Batman Beyond all around.

I always found that version of Babs kind of depressing, yeah she's happy and grounded, but she ultimately couldnt settle with either Dick or Bruce in the end. She has the best ending out of all them (besides Terry), but it's tinged with the notion of what could have been if she were a little more accepting of Bruce's mission
