THis was at the same time Hogan debuted.
It was really, really bad timing. TNA was pretty much giving all its fans a giant middle finger at this point.
Orlando's whole bit, was just more crap we didn't want to see.

Gonna be honest, as a bisexual myself if I were a wrestler I'd probably exploit it for heat too. It wouldn't be my whole gimmick though, just a part of it.

I actually thought Orlando's character had potential. Could have been the new Goldust.

People talk about the next Adrian Street type character, i think oj could have been it if his character didn't go off in a goofy direction.

When I see gimmicks like that, which take actual effort to come up with and support to get its momentum going, I question why the wrestler isn't then booked strongly. What did he do? You come up with a dramatic gimmick like that (not saying it was good or bad, just that there was more to it than most new gimmicks), you have to support it. Mind games with Rob Terry is not the way to go about it, they should've had Orlando go after the upper mid card.
It's like Orlando wasn't even the chance to get the gimmick over. A Lady Gaga-ish gimmick would've been perfect at the time.

Adrian Street worked because he even though he pranced and preened around the ring, he would knock you out if you mistook him for a joke. OJ was promised as being groundbreaking but turn out to be stereotypical gay guy complete with hypersexuality.

Wait, so TNA pay their roster so poorly they all lived off the "tesco £3 meal deal" on the UK tour
Jeesus, have some self respect, those sandwiches are always terrible.

Wow, that column took a lot of time to say very little. And what was there was badly researched and ignorant.
As for how Orlando Jordan's gimmick went down, I guess the moral is you should only play a LGBT gimmick if you're actually a straight guy. Then it'll be lauded.

I'm a fussy eater and don't like Egg or Mayonnaise so the only real option for me anywhere that sells pre packed sandwiches are "just Ham" if they even sell that. And the bread is always awful. The tescos deal isn't really that good when I can get a 6 inch subway and a drink for the same price

That explains more about TNA creative than the writer intended.

As you can see, the real story behind Orlando Jordan is that he's a wrestler. He's in his late 30s, is married, and he currently resides in Melbourne. Thanks for writing! We'll be right back.

Don't know if I should trust chicken from a chemist?!? :\

I cannot help but wonder if this idiot had bothered to do his job and got those outlets to cover the OJ stuff, gotten a dialogue going, where that character would have gone. Yeah it is Russo so worse is a good guess but you don't know without trying. Also, 5 years working for them and he would refuse to do his job if he didn't like something? No wonder TNA struggled to get press. This know nothing probably killed more opportunities than he actually got them.

Sigh....ok this might step on some toes and anger some people so I'll just apologize in advance. Hopefully this all makes sense when I'm done.
Wrestling at this time cannot handle a LGBT gimmick. Nor will it ever be able to going forward again.
Ok now that I've pissed some people off please give me a chance to explain why. Being gay isn't a gimmick, it's a way of life, it's who you are. The way this country is (talking U.S. here not the whole world) right now, it's moving towards an acceptance of that way of life. With that going on how are you supposed to generate on camera "heat" one way or another? Since the late 90s most people's ring persona's are just their personality cranked up to 11. How the hell are you supposed to crank the gay up to 11 without completely and utterly pissing the people off that you are representing in real life.
You've probably all seen the Chuck and Billy trainwreck. WWE had ( I forget the organization sorry) praising the whole thing till they realized it was just a giant storyline. Is that the route to go....doubtful. I don't know how many of you were around to see Adrian Adonis in his effeminate stage. Yes yes it was punishment from Vince....but here's a guy who didn't even say he was gay, just gave the impression he was and he was hated and ridiculed. It generated heat, but you can't do that kinda stuff now. You would get killed by fans and media alike.
So again how do you do the LGBT gimmick in wrestling...you don't. A gay/bi wrestler wants to make being gay a gimmick, do it in real life. Come out to the general public. Be a good person outside the ring. Make the people want to invest the time and money to come and support you. That will give the LGBT community something more to cheer for than some guy wearing a stupid mask squirting lotion all on his chest and face. That wasn't edgy or trendsetting that was just damn stupid and embarrassing to watch.
