I marked out for that, becuase the guy's a strong talent and I've been a big fan since World Elite.
But, it's with caution, because it feels so...Fail Sabin-y.

TNA are so incompetent that they couldn't even build towards a PPV. So they make no money from buys and most people would have figured that Magnus would win by shenanigans so they wouldn't have turned it.

I actually feel really bad for Eric Young.
The dude has worked so, so hard for this company since the beginning. Finally, he gets the shot to be champion, but the rest of the world is laughing their ass off because of how blatantly bad the circumstances around his title reign are.

Let's see:
1. One of the indy darlings "walks out"; Samoa Joe. 2. Leads to a bearded, tiny, crazy-man winning the title from authority picked champion. 3. celebrate.
Poor EY. He's a great talent but it's so obvious why they did this.

Can someone fill me in on the Joe walk out? Did that happen at the beginning of Impact? It's a work, I take it?

I'll c&p this from the thread I created. I didn't see this one
Finally the long decade-long culmination has happened for Eric Young as he wins the World title and is the 4th TNA Grand Slam Champion in the company's history.
Now before everyone piles on the LOLRIPOFF stuff, the ONLY similarity Young has with Bryan is a large beard and he had 2 matches in one night, neither of which did Bryan "create". EY is not ripping off his theme, chant, mannerisms, or anything of the sort. Hell, Magnus isn't even with an Authority stable anymore. He's buddies with Abyss and that's it.
Young has been in so many shitty storylines for TNA over his career and it's refreshing to see him be rewarded for his loyalty and hard work for the company, even if it might be for a couple weeks. So congrats on winning the big one Eric Young, you definitely deserve it!

They announced on Twitter that Samoa Joe was not showing up to Impact tonight, as he was announced for the Gauntlet match. Most likely a work to plug him into the CM Punk role of the Mania buildup.

The annoying thing was the the win was completely clean. No shenanigans, no miscommunicaiton between Abyss & Mango, no Mango getting his just desserts by having an attempt at cheating backfire. Just counters a back body drop with a piledriver and wins. Meanwhile Mango looks like a joke who can't even stand a chance against an injured man (who BTW has never been shown to be on the same level as the main eventers) and can't even effectively cheat.

Every possible idea has been taken and done about a million times over changing only the people within the angle. It could be a Bryan ripoff thing, but I really don't think that's the purpose of giving EY the belt, especially because he'll more than likely be a transitional champion whereas Bryan is sure to have a great, long run.

I like Magnus. I like Eric Young. But the way they have been booked after being moved up the card is atrocious, and only serves to make the TNA TItle and TNA brand in general look bad.

What a tasteful homage to another company.

What about the timing? It's literally less than a week afterwards. To quote someone from Something Awful

Oh, without a doubt the timing is suspect, and there are a lot of parallels, but I didn't really think of the similarities to the Bryan storyline until I came in this section.
Either way I'm happy for EY and hope he's not a one-week champion, but I don't foresee a long reign.

I'm not saying WWE is the poster-boy of original ideas, but the timing of this title change and who and how he won it screams a ripoff of the current WWE story-line. I understand them wanting to capitalize on the current popularity of wrestling around 'Mania season like they did when RVD won the title from AJ in a night, but rushed title changes like this are often more harm than good and derail any planning they had previously. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Magnus wins it right back at Sacrifice and things go on as normal.

To quote someone from Something Awful I'll go ahead and argue Something Awful - Magnus hasn't been backed by Dixie for nearly a month now. It's just been him and Abyss. - Abyss and Joseph Park were essentially two separate characters until recently. Kane never ran around like a completely different person. The only reason this is even compared to Team Hell No is because a bearded man and a masked man were interacting. - Bryan has already won the big one twice (three if you want to count the WHC) before he won at Wrestlemania. - Bryan is the only person in wrestling that can have a beard now? Come on. EY is 5'11 and 225 pounds. Bryan is 5'10 and 210 billed (190 actual) - It's been done before. Rock won his first title winning 3 matches at Survivor Series 98 is a prime example. Bryan doing it at Wrestlemania isn't the first time it's ever happened. - This might be the only similarity in the bunch.

It's the whole timing of the f***ing thing. They just put the title on one of their hottest stars in years and it was hotly anticipated. Then TNA goes "us too" and puts the title on a guy that has won three singles matches since the start of 2012. In comparision, Bryan hasn't lost a singles match clean in 9 months or so.
