It would be cool if someone slowly lost their mind and became an evil clown, and it wasn't a new/mystery guy playing as a clown.

Or else you have a Willow situation, where the guy is already popular and it just angers the fanbase that you're wasting the guy in stupid gimmick.

Dean Ambrose leaving The Shield and turning heel seems like the closest we'll get to this.

I don't want them to bring back Doink any more.
I am not totally opposed to the idea of an evil clown character.

Not if there's good storytelling, as opposed to random vignettes of Jeff Hardy on a bad acid trip.

The problem is, because of Doink, any kind of evil clown you bring in now will only be seen as a ripoff, and will not be accepted.
It would be "Go away" heat, if he gets anything.

They should of had Doink return and join Undertaker's Ministry.

I would like Ambrose a lot better if he was working a crazy clown gimmick. His over the top mannerisms are a perfect fit. Ambrose as Evil Doink is tens of millions of dollars waiting to happen.

Not only is a darker Doink a ready made gimmick for someone, but it also raises the real possibility of creating his version of Harlequin
A perfect role for a female wrestler/manager.

People want Dean Ambrose to leave the Shield and start dressing like a clown?
Ok.

Watching Wrestlemania 9 and it just brought back how cool the evil version of Doink The Clown was, that music and his psychology was really cool. Its one gimmick that can be reused over and over with different wrestlers. They have brought back cheesy Doink many times over the years for nostalgia purposes, but what if they brought back the sick and twisted version for a more modernized run? With characters like Bray Wyatt around, it would be interesting IMO, even if only for a short run for him to be unmasked as a new character. Yep just a random Sunday morning thought. Likes this

People want Dean Ambrose to leave the Shield and start dressing like a clown? Ok. Or they are speculating on what characters Ambrose can play if the SHIELD runs its course.

This makes wonder why they didn't make a very evil Doink during the attitude era(since everything was made edgier). Was it because they had icp on board, and thus didn't need one?

Being a wrestling Elvis worked fine for the Honky Tonk Man.

Before anybody knocks it just because it happened in TNA, I just want to say Sting was awesome during his Joker Sting period. I don't think I can disagree with this more if I tried... Also he came off far more like Jim Carrey/Frank Gorshin's riddler than he did Ledger's Joker. Evil clown gimmick would only work under the right wrestler. The original Doink worked because Matt Borne was perfect for that role. He really captured a dark, ominous presence to it. . Absolutely, the way he would come out laughing and then suddenly go deadpan serious was amazing... follow it up with the fact that in the ring he was a machine and you have a great character.

They werent too great. I love outlandish over the top characters, but to waste Dean Ambrose behind Doink facepaint is a stupid idea.
