Listening to him appledough his way through promos against Bray Wyatt is painful. He's so tired as a television character. He feels ancient and out of place on WWE TV any time he opens his mouth. He's a great wrestler and he has great matches, but I wouldn't shed a tear if I never had to see him on my television again. The guy has been The Guy since 2005, the same year when Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" was a major radio hit. That's how old he is as a television character. And he hasn't changed at all. Still appledoughing his way through everything.
*sigh*

I didn't even mind his promo. Gave good material for Bray to have a strong retort.

I wish they'd change his character. Even a small change would be nice.

He could definitely use a rest, if he'd ever take one. Ideally, the Bray cage match would provide a way to get him off-screen for a bit.

His remark about people not wanting to see him get a push was funny. Then he fell down Crapjoke Mountain.

I hated that at first but actually liked how the Family no sold it and picked at him based on it. It seemed like a deal where Cena was expecting a certain reaction and when he didn't get it was supposed to be lost. Not that the announcers sold it that way, it just came off that way to me.

Honestly, it just speaks volumes about Bray Wyatt that he managed to salvage Cena's post-feud-match other guy's gimmick-killer promo.
But yes, Cena dramatically needs something new.

I like how Bray no sold the photoshop stuff, said "same old shit" then tore Cena down while building himself up. Wyatt is coming off as a superior performer and character in this and I'm not sure that's the goal here.I love it.
He's obliterating every verbally and it's even more noticeable as he's being allowed to play tweener as they openly acknowledge the pops he's getting.

Bad Photoshop jokes are never funny. It's not wise to say something like that on this forum.

Cena's promo was salvaged only by the fact that Wyatt no-sold it. Beyond that it was the typical kiddie dogshit that people have been ragging Cena about for years. It amazes me that he's been a main eventer for close to 10 years, and in that time he's only ever cut a handful of promos that weren't complete ass.

Bad Photoshop jokes are never funny. Unless a "favorite"* does it. Then he's "one of us". {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} You know which one I'm talking about...

I loved Luke Harper's blank stare. He may have even thought the pictures were real and still didn't care.

It just made Cena look like a complete moron, to the point where I'm wondering if that was actually the purpose (deliberately having it come across as a failed attempt to rattle Bray). Because otherwise, I'm a bit baffled. Like, are the Wyatts really meant to care about their faces being photoshopped?

Glad someone started this thread. This was exhibit A of *why* Cena gets booed so much. It's horrible and lame and makes him look idiotic.
We're now entering an era where guys like Bryan and Shield are getting full-on babyface pops and adulation from crowds. So Cena's dumb-assed half and half routine is stale, painful and unnecessary. I really wish WWE would stop going in this direction with his character. I really want to like the guy, but every time he does these promos it makes me want to see his character obliterated. That shouldn't be the mindset anymore.

At this point I wouldn't mind if he just straight up left. Not because I hate the guy, but because I get uncomfortable watching the poor guy getting booed all the time. It's kinda sad.

Yeah, Cena seems ancient out there given what's happened in the company in the last few months. He's almost a relic of another era, like Hulk Hogan coming out in the red and yellow for the nostalgia pop.
Yeah, fine. Don't turn him heel. Just do SOMETHING with him. Jokester southern preacher who loves primary colors is a weird contrast to Bryan, the Shield and Cesaro.

If anyone saw "Total Divas" last night, there was a part when Cena was attached to a computer and wouldn't respond to Nikki Bella. I got theories....
1. Porn (obvious)
2. 4Chan
3. Photoshopping the Wyatts
4. Rosetta Stone Mandarin
5. Myspace

I really wish WWE would stop going in this direction with his character. I really want to like the guy, but every time he does these promos it makes me want to see his character obliterated. That shouldn't be the mindset anymore. Exactly. It was good that Wyatt didn't sell any of it and it gave him a good jumping off point for the rest of his promo, but the fact remains that we're either supposed to like John Cena (and how could you, based on tonight?), or he's suppposed to play in the middle and encourage half the crowd to hate him, which is beyond trite. It used to feel novel, "wow, half the crowd is chanting let's go Cena, the other half is chanting Cena sucks!", but now that we have real babyfaces that people actually like, it's not fun anymore. Maybe, just maybe, they're using Wyatt's character to put an end to this crap. He's perfect in the role of supposed 'heel' that gets face reactions because it plays into his false prophet, cult-leader persona. I don't know what the endgame could be though. Even if Cena did change his character, he'd still get booed, because at this point people enjoy booing him. In that way, he truly is the perfect heel.
