What about Triple H hasn't his character always been the same, with the exception of D-X

Yeah Blue Blood Hunter to COO Hunter was always the same guy.
But in Kayfabe Terra Ryzin, and Jean-Paul Levesque are different people
Here's a question...
Are Lord Steven Regal, The Real Man's Man Steven Regal and Steven William Regal good will ambassador the same person in kayfabe?

Did they acknowledge that Col. Mustafa was The Iron Sheik? Yes, in his first Superstars appearance they briefly mention it. (sidenote: Ricky Steamboat returned as The Dragon on the same show...and I clearly remember Vince calling him "The Dragon Ricky Steamboat." I know the references faded in time, but they did NOT pretend he was a rookie when he came back. Plus a WWF Magazine article mentioned his WM3 I-C match. So let us put that myth to rest please...) The timeline of Goldfather is pretty much spot-on...I think the transition came as Kama Mustafa was just wearing gangster-like outfits to the ring at first. Then came the DX parody where they made the first clear reference to him being a "pimp." Godfather replied using his soon-to-be famous catchphrase, then started showing up with the ho's, and the rest is history. Not sure when they added "Godfather" to his name. Barry Darsow is another one...but only with his WCW gimmicks. He appeared as himself on WCWSN in 1994, then was repackaged as Blacktop Bully, with no acknowledgement of who he really was. Then in the MNW era, he came back as Hole-in-One Darsow...and later on he did a gimmick as himself, but where he had an identity crisis and came out with every one of his NWA/WCW gimmicks (Krusher Kruschev, Bully, Hole-in-One...). So technically, all those were the same person in kayfabe. And heck, he started the Commie gimmick by being "Krusher Darsow" anyway. Repo Man and Smash are different people, though.

Are Lord Steven Regal, The Real Man's Man Steven Regal and Steven William Regal good will ambassador the same person in kayfabe? He did a one-shot match as Steven Regal the blueblood in the WWF, got taken off TV and returned as the Man's Man. On the Themes DVD that came out weeks ago, William Regal talks about the Real Man's Man theme, so....yeah, all the same person.

This ties in well with my current annoyance at the Paige character. On one hand they acknowledge she is the NXT Women's champion, on the other she's now a face without ever actually "turning". I'm waiting to see if she's still a heel on NXT or if they just quietly have her going the other way without ever having turned around.

How about Kanyon and Mortis: One in the same or not related at all? And if totally separate, were both gimmicks active at the same time? And try to make sense of every incarnation of Make a Difference Rikishi Fatu. Kanyon was an unmasked Mortis, after Raven injured him, they were the same person. In fact, the whole Kanyon thing came about because Mortis tried joining the Flock but failed and attacked by Raven, so he started attacking Raven as a "master of disguise" for a few weeks (including a weird moment where a skinny fan legit attacked Raven in the ring and the announcers tried to play it off as it possibly being another part of the master of disguise thing.) - once he emerged as Kanyon, Raven even dressed up as Mortis at one point in the feud. Crush - While I don't think they ever made a connection between Demolition Crush and Kona Crush (unless you want to count his brief face run teaming on house shows with one of the LOD after the other split as an explanation for his transition), all of his other gimmicks were the same guy, even Kronik, as WCW made sure we knew who he was, with that character returning to WWF. The Disciple - was it ever acknowledged that he was Hogan's old ally? They seemed to treat him like a complete blank slate. Hell, even I didn't catch on that it was Beefcake until a good month or two into his return, when I finally saw him without the sunglasses on. For the most part though, the Attitude Era and Monday Night Wars pretty much threw a lot of this out the door for a lot of the guys. Old identities and gimmicks were being brought up constantly in angles or commentary to play to the "smart" fans of the Crash TV age.

No, Roddy Piper did an interview also where he outed him as "E. Harrison Leslie". Don't recall which of his past personas he named, but I think Beefcake and Booty Man were mentioned. And before that, Booty Man was described as a "spy" in the Dungeon of Doom, linking him and Zodiac at least, though Bruti/Butcher/Man with No Name were not formally linked to them before Piper and Warrior's interviews. John Tenta was linked to Shark and Avalanche when he did the "I'm not a fish" interview (before, they tried to pass off Shark as someone new...) They tried to rename him, but Alex Wright was linked to Berlyn pre-Columbine as he came out in Berlyn gear but the announcers ID'ed him as Alex Wright. Not sure if him going back to Wright as part of the Boogie Knights counts, even though he pretty much looked like Berlyn, minus the mohawk.

Road Dogg, Roadie, and Real Double J = all the same person (he came back as RDJ Jesse James using the footage of him and Jarrett, then when he joined up with Billy Gunn, he (re)named himself the Road Dogg).
Jacques Rougeau was called "The Mountie Jacques Rougeau" briefly when his vignettes started, so there's a connection there. Then I guess we were supposed to know that Quebecer Jacques was the same guy because of the obvious uniform and "parody" of his own theme song.
Meng returning to WWF as Haku, but looking exactly like Meng = we're supposed to know they were the same person? Which ties in King Tonga, Haku the Islander, King Haku, and all the other versions of Meng.
Saba Simba and Tony Atlas. Shoot or not, you decide. (Vince does the whole "finding his roots" spiel on a Challenge episode too, so I'd say not)
Akeem and One Man Gang, of course.
Typhoon and Tugboat, too. And if redubbed commentary on Coliseum Videos is canon, you can throw in the Shockmaster too, as JR made veiled references to that when announcing an old Typhoon match.
Lanny Poffo and The Genius (well the gimmick was Leaping Lanny turned up to 20 anyway, but again, initial vignettes called him "The Genius Lanny Poffo". That and before he changed over, Poffo was still Leaping Lanny leading up to Mania 5 but already turned heel doing pro-Macho Man poems at house shows...)
I guess we can choose any guy in any Russo era that "shot" on his character and was going to be "themselves."
Any guy who was suspended and came back under a mask.
Justin Credible and Aldo Montoya, as I believe he shot on the WWF character in ECW, and nonetheless at a Halloween themed ECW show dressed up as Aldo again. Not sure if his debut in ECW as PG-187, his USWA name, was formally linked to Credible.
Raven and all of Scott Levy's previous characters...just look at the build up to his first ECW appearance. Tommy Dreamer also mentioned it in an interview after that.
The name wasn't mentioned, but Undertaker and Mean Mark Callous. Based off a comment made by Paul Heyman when introducing Brock Lesnar, in which he mentions that he "discovered" the Undertaker. Other than that, it's been 20 years+, WWE has almost all the footage, the story of almost every other major superstar has been told in full...and no one has formally linked UT with his past.

For instance. Sycho Sid was Sid Justice in 1991/92, but was he suppose to be the same character in WWF continuity? I always took things like this as that he basically was, but in a different style - kind of like the different interpretations of Batman, for instance. "Sycho" Sid Justice, maybe?

Typhoon and Tugboat, too. There's a direct reason for that change, though - Tugboat turned heel, joined up with Earthquake and Jimmy Hart, and renamed himself Typhoon to form the Natural Disasters team. The continuity was always there. Other than when he wrestled at WM17 as Tugboat - and they even aluded to his association with Quake - that name never came back; he was always Typhoon. Which I guess sounds cooler and looks better than a big man dressed as an old-timey sailor.

During his early Ministry phase and later during the Sara stalker angle, people called him Mark, so they were at least opening that door.
