Attitude Era and the "set up piledriver ringside/crowd, backdrop" spot. That was basically just Austin. He must have done that nearly every PPV in a brawl outside the ring. In kayfabe the poor guy tried so hard to hit that move and missed every time, but once when he hit it on Angle on concrete in 2001.

JEE-zus, you watch an old Attitude Era PPV since the Network came out? Literally a DDT in every match. Also, Canadian Destroyers. Not everyone could do them, but lord, lots of people tried. And no matter how inconceivable it was, man did people love seeing it. Its impossible to not love a Canadian Destroyer, though. Visually it looks cool but logically I f***ing hate that move

When I watch videos from the mid to late 1990's, I feel like piledrivers were used very frequently and without actually doing any damage. I watched a bit of SummerSlam 2000 earlier and it has the most ridiculous case of that I might've ever seen. King hit a piledriver on Tazz, and Tazz was back on his feet from it so fast he was up before King was.

I think they were calling back the infamous Hawk no-sell, but that had to fly over the heads of just about 95% of the audience's heads.

On the indy scene EVERYONE does the "On the apron jumping enzugiri to guy in the ring while holding top rope." Sin Cara thing. that's a move I don't mind seeing over and over.

I watched Royal Rumble 97 yesterday, and there were at least 3 instances of a wrestler diving off the top and getting caught with a powerslam in a fluid motion. One of them was Vader getting caught by Taker, which was just ridiculous.

Show, Taker, Kane and maybe some other big men using the chokeslam.
I remember the shining wizard being really popular at one point, but that was mostly on the indies.
I feel like most move fads happen when famous wrestlers retire, switch companies or they pass away.
Like how someone said earlier in this thread, the super kick is being used a lot more now and that's because HBK is retired and people couldn't use it while he was around. Lots of guys started using the frog splash after Eddie passed away as a tribute. I don't remember guys using the DDT in WWF until Jake left for WCW.

For awhile in the indies, doing spine kicks were all the rage.
Atomic drops from the 80s to the 90s were in every watch. Usually with the heel comically grabbing his ass in pain.
Head drop back duplexes were very prevalent in the independent circuit for a few years. Glad to see that chilled out.
I remember after Joe/Kobashi super stiff slaps and chops got big in the US for a bit.

I can't say much to WWE as a lot of the in ring stuff runs together, but in the indies in 2002-2004 or or so EVERYBODY was doing a Shining Wizard. Then in 2005 it became all about the double stomp.
Oh, and suplexes in the corner.

Attitude Era - inverted atomic drop. Not sure why this move was legal.

Japan. Roundhouse kicks. Everywhere. Also Attitude Era and the "set up piledriver ringside/crowd, backdrop" spot. This was so ubiquitous that it even happened in the 2000 Royal Rumble.

For modern era fads again: The "run elbow-first into the ringpost" spot. Seriously, it seems like it happens at least once in every match now (and since it's one of Steamboat's favorite spots, is likely for a reason.)

Flying reverse black man STO. Used by Shelton Benjamin, R-Truth, MVP. White guy Overdrive. Used by Randy Orton, Carlito and MVP (!?) Muhammad Hassan and Undertaker also used the STO. As did Frankie Kazarian in his short-lived Velocity stint. Completely forgot Undertaker used that move. Also, Orlando Jordan did for a while I think

Spear through the barricade, a year or two ago it seemed like it would happen at least once a show... occasionally multiple times. Its impossible to not love a Canadian Destroyer, though. Visually it looks cool but logically I f***ing hate that move There was actually footage of one being used in an amateur wrestling match... so it's not as illogical as most assumed On the indy scene EVERYONE does the "On the apron jumping enzugiri to guy in the ring while holding top rope." Sin Cara thing. On the indies... Shooting Star Press... in all variations especially Standing... it seemed like at one point everyone had a standing shooting star press.
