I can't say much to WWE as a lot of the in ring stuff runs together, but in the indies in 2002-2004 or or so EVERYBODY was doing a Shining Wizard. Then in 2005 it became all about the double stomp. Oh, and suplexes in the corner. Thats the other indy fad. Exploder suplexes into the corner. I swear. A normal exploder in the center of the ring would actually shock me at this point.

The spot where one guy would superplex his opponent, while being powerbombed by the third guy was featured in every single triple threat match a few years ago.

Alot of guys seemed to start using Crossfaces during PPV matches a few years ago
I guess the WWE were trying to reclaim the move and remove the negative stigma attached to it

I remember when every diva either did the X-Factor, Running Bulldog or a DDT as their finisher, and had the Lou Thesz Press in their arsenal.
And when every big man did a Sideslam or Uranage variant.
Right now the Belly To Belly, Fallaway Slam, Big Splash and Running Clothesline as a finish/setup are overused, oh and variants of the headlock driver (Ambrose, Axel, EC3).

Spears have gotten pretty frequent over the last couple years.

Spear through the barricade, a year or two ago it seemed like it would happen at least once a show... occasionally multiple times. This is still happening now.

I feel like most move fads happen when famous wrestlers retire, switch companies or they pass away. Like how someone said earlier in this thread, the super kick is being used a lot more now and that's because HBK is retired and people couldn't use it while he was around. Lots of guys started using the frog splash after Eddie passed away as a tribute. I don't remember guys using the DDT in WWF until Jake left for WCW. Just after Edge retired, about half of the FCW/NXT roster started using the Downward Spiral.

Early 2000's shining wizards were spammed every indy show.

Spears have gotten pretty frequent over the last couple years. I've never got why nobody has adopted the Pounce instead of just using the spear all the time, it would suit Reigns.

The BOO-YEAH punching exchange (with crowd response) has been a staple of main event title matches since John Cena and HHH at WM22. I really want 2K to put these in a WWE game.

It is pretty rare to see it in the 'e though so I would love for Zayn to keep it in his signature moves. Seeing it done in a WWE ring, with a diffrent context and crowd (who don't see that kind of stuff often) would be good in my opinion. Spoke to soon, he has already used it on Cesaro in WWE, so now I assume he is using it as a semi regular move instead of one of his signatures like in the indys But it can definitely be toned town in the indys, unless your name is BJ Whitmer and your using all the variations of the move

Spears have gotten pretty frequent over the last couple years. Lets see, in WWE alone we've got: Batista, Big Show, Christian, Roman Reigns, Kaitlin(before she left), and I'm pretty sure I've seen Cena and Ryback each bust one out every now and again. If Edge ever miraculously heals enough to wrestle again, Goldberg returns and Rhyno does too, you could have one of the silliest spot fests ever with a Spear match.

In the late 80s/early 90s every big guy had to have a splash for finisher. Kamala, Typhoon, Akeem, King Kong Bundy, Bam Bam Bigelow.
