So FAN, I have an easy problem I need your help solving. I need a new game. Preferably a PC game. I'd like for it to be a strategy or a simulation type game--I very much enjoy war games, particularly deep, turn-based ones where I, as the player, have a ton of flexibility (This is key). A political-type simulation would be nice as well. Here are some important notes:
It absolutely cannot be a game that requires me to play online. I don't have enough internet for it.
It cannot be one of the following games, since I already own them: Europa Universalis (Any of them), Crusader Kings 2, Total War (Any of them), Civilization (Any of them), Tropico 3 or 4
A realistic setting is not necessary. I really, really overthink games that are set in realistic setting anyway.
It'd be nice if it has a good modding community.
--
If nothing fits any of these above, a good open-world sandbox RPG that is not: Elder Scrolls (Any of them), Fallout (Any of them), or Starbound would be appreciated.
I'm not very familiar with a lot of PC games and any suggestions would be appreciated. The main thing I want in a game right now is depth and player choice.
So yeah...what ideas do you guys have?

Does Civilization require an internet connection?
As for sandbox RPGs, Terraria plays a lot like Starbound, so if you enjoyed that, you'll enjoy Terraria.

Does Civilization require an internet connection? No, but that should have been on my list of games that I already have. I will amend that now.

The Sims franchise. Doesn't matter which one.

I'm too good at that--there's no competition.

Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete edition. Think they are up to 6 now in the series but to me this is the best of the bunch (at least first 5...have 6 loaded on pc right now but haven't hit play yet).
If you go that route gimme a shout. Just remember Necropolis v Castle (peasents) equals a crapton of skeletons on your side.

FTL: Faster Than Light
Part Rogue-Like, Part Ship Combat, it's hard....but fair. It's also like $10 on Steam ATM, and there's a GREAT Mod that just came out for it.

Rimworld is pretty good. I have been playing it since pre alpha. Its a colony game in which you defend your self on an alien planet. It's only alpha 3 though. But the developer is very active in his forum and it has very few bugs in it.
Look up a "Lets play" to see if you like it.
Prison Architect is pretty good. Its a bit different from what you own.
Don't Starve is really good. Its very creepy.
As for RPG I own Y's book 1 and 2. I played then on my SEGA Master System years ago and the remakes are fantastic.
If you arn't too hung up on graphics. I would recommend XCOM UFO Defence. Arguably the best video game ever made.

The "Give me everything in your wallet" game. I'm warning you, it's hard.

It adds a LOT of new scripts and options as well as weapons and interactions. TotalBiscuit did a video on JUST the Mod about a week ago. You'll need the Slipshine Mod manager and of course the Captain's Edition mod itself (Both Free). It's still linear, but it really fleshes out the mythos and lore of FTL

So, like a jerk, I didn't go with any of the suggestions put forth in this thread.
Fail (On me).
My Wife too me to gamestop and I got a bunch of used games in a Buy 2 get 1 free deal. I obtained as follows:
Armored Core: Verdict Day FarCry 3 XCOM: Enemy Unknown Soul Calibur 4 (When did it become Super Strip Fighter?) SMT: Soul Hackers Kirby's Epic Yarn
All of which seem to be pretty good. XCOM: Enemy Unknown closest reaches what I was looking for, it turns out. I avoided that game for a while, but it seems very fun. I will look into all of these suggestions in the future, however.

Just a random suggestion, but try Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. Story-wise... it's not really in-depth. It's sort of a zombie apocalypse roguelike where your only task is to survive as long as you can. Giant sandbox type map. You need to sleep, eat, drink, and more or less keep yourself alive. You need to make a shelter away from the town where all the zombies are. On the other hand, you need to go to the towns at least once in a while to get some important supplies.
Pretty tough stuff. Aside from food and drink, you need to find clothes since the seasons change. Food rots, and enemies can see, hear, and smell you. You're also pretty limited in carrying capacity, since there's only so much you can fit in a pocket. On the other hand, more layers of clothing will slow you down.
Kinda fun to play once in a while. In any case, as far as I know no one has made tiles yet, so it's all ASCII.
