How about a Forrest Gump spinoff movie based on Jenny's point of view? F**k Jenny. The way I see things, she was the villain in that movie. Sure, she had a crappy childhood, but that's no excuse for giving a mentally-challenged man hope, then crushing him by abandoning him time after time, despite the fact that all he wants to do is prove his love for her. Yet she decides that abusive hippies and drug-addicts are better for her, so good for her. Then, lo and behold, Forrest happens upon some money with the shrimping business and his investment in Apple, and guess who suddenly comes back into his life! So anyway, she comes back, Forrest proposes to her, she rejects his proposal, sleeps with him, and bails the next morning. Then, Forrest becomes an international celebrity with his cross-country run, and when Jenny is literally about to die, she decides that's the ideal time to settle back into Forrest's life once more, marry him, then crush him one final time by dying and leaving their child without a mother. Jenny is a monster. F**k her.

I remember in college after Heath Ledger died someone told me that filmmakers were planning a sequel to Brokeback Mountain where Heath Ledger is alone and gay in Texas (even though the first didn't take place in Texas).
It just made me think of the image of a sad and aged Heath Ledger tearfully saying outloud to no one in particular:
"I'm alone...
and gay...
IN TEXAS!"

That isn't Grave of the Fireflies or Requiem for a Dream. It is definitely Grave of the Fireflies for me. I have a problem with this film, in that it has the touch of artifice about it. It is TRYING to make people feel sad. It wasn't telling a sad story. It doesn't make it any less effective to milking out the tears. But if you understand that was the intent, then it... softens the blow? Though it and Requiem both are the self-destruction of people.

A romantic comedy that is marketed as a standard romantic comedy and stars typical romantic comedy actors. The movie itself is a pretty standard romantic comedy. Then the last 20 minutes is a gory slasher flick and our protagonists are brutally killed off by a minor character who wasn't so minor after all. ... Who am I kidding, that'd be the best movie ever. I was reaching for my wallet until I realized that movie didn't exist.

A kid who is Jewish, hiding from the nazis, has a learning disability, also a major alcoholic. He eventually befriends a puppy which eventually dies. That sounds so sad that if I see it, I might cry myself to death. I don't know, sounds like Oscar gold to me.
