What is wrong with this? Why is it news? Why the unnecessary shot at TNA? While I know the answer to all three, I still feel the need to make sure they are asked. it's news because it's nice to hear what retired wrestlers are doing now. It doesn't matter if he's a executive stock broker for Goldman Sachs, or works as a driller in a oil patch, or a cashier at Target. I don't really follow TNA but wasn't making less then a likeable wage with them?

I would like to direct you, Ric, to the comments made by a fellow FAN user. Also named Ric. *sighs* Why has wrestling turned into TMZ? As I said in the stickied thread, if you do not like a thread, you are more than capable to stay out of it. Nothing makes you open a topic but you. People want to know where former wrestlers work and who they may or may not be dating. With all due respect, this is the age we live in now.

Okay then, allow me to rephrase myself, why this being passed off by the OP as some tragedy (who has a horrible habit of doing this thus my indignation) with a needless damned shot at TNA? The man went through a lot of bad in his life, lived his dream, had a horrible fall and now is rebuilding himself but instead of celebrating that we have "bet they pay better than TNA' followed by talk of Walmart and TNA's business practices Maybe have a clue what something is about before playing cute.

It's not a tragedy, it's just a bit sad.

Is the snark at the end there for me or is that for the OP? Because I don't just play cute.... I stay cute. Generally I think the reason a thread like this exists is because of the pedestal we put professional wrestlers on. At least I know I do. These guys are supposed to be larger than life superhero-like characters who you see on TV every day, so to see that one of them is now working a day job at a retailer is still a shock to the system. We're not used to the whole juxtaposition of the perceived stardom that goes along with being a professional wrestler and the lack of pomp and circumstance that goes with an everyday job that you or I could have. And with TNA it's even a bit different from that, because we have such low expectations based on stories that have come out about payment or lack thereof. So seeing Jesse Neal working at Wal-Mart is just another notch in the column of TNA being second rate. When something like this happens it feels like it justifies the joking we do about the ratchetness of TNA. Either way it's probably not accurate, but those are two methods of thinking that would go into why a thread like this would exist. Either out of shock or lack of shock. Me personally? I don't care a ton about a wrestler's personal life as long as they're living well and not in any kind of trouble. If Neal is working a 9 to 5 and not broke off his ass? I say good for him. There's no shame in working for a living.

It's not a tragedy, it's just a bit sad. Bit sad? Even ignoring the military, he lived his dream, lost everything again and has now overcome that and rebuilt his life to a good spot where has a regular job, a wife and kid as well as is getting back into wrestling. That should be celebrated, IMO. Many never make past his original issues, let alone the post TNA ones.

Pretty sure Walmart offers health coverage for full time employees. Part timers? Hell no. Walmart does as much possible to make sure their employees don't become full-timers. They'll give them just enough hours under the limit so they don't have to give them benefits. I feel bad for Neal but considering some of the mental problems and PTSD he supposedly has, Walmart may be the only place he can get steady work.

Well... I mean... have you SEEN Jesse Neal?
This is not a guy who can work in a corporate environment.

By his own admission he got something like 8 concussions in TNA. Combine that with PTSD and it sounds utterly terrifying.

Not surprising really. He had two careers that more or less chew you up and spit you out while you're young and don't really prepare you for anything else. I'd rather have him working an honest job at WalMart than being a drug addicted junkie thief or something. WalMart may not be everyone's ideal, but when it comes down to it it's a steady paycheck regardless of the outside factors and a steady paycheck is what a lot of people need and is a really underrated commodity.

What's really sad is that a lot of people getting into the wrestling business don't realize that today's wrestling is nothing like the old days where if you leave one company you can still go and work for other promoters or get a decent payday on the indys. If you're not on WWE's payroll your only other option is Japan. There's no more WCW, NWA, AWA, or ECW. So why don't any of these guys have a back up plan. The women can still model so they still have options but the guys think they're going to wrestle forever like Hogan and Flair do. One other note is that today's style is a lot more high impact moves that shorten a career which is more reason to find alternatives in life.

I feel bad for him.
Not because he's an ex-wrestler working a 9-5 job. But because he works at Walmart.

Is it sad that I guessed him? I literally saw the thread title and said "It's Jessie, isn't it?"

I'm hoping this leads to him starting up a new wrestling promotion. Wal-Mart Wrestling Promotion.

it's more the war hero thing I think. He should have more skills than working as Wal-mart. But as an ex-soldier he should have access to VA health benefits As a veteran, I can attest that the VA sucks. You still want a good civilian health plan. The VA is only going to help with injuries sustained while in service. They are not the place to go if you get sick. My dad got some really good hearing aids at a greatly reduced price through the VA. And his hearing issues are not from combat (he was in charge of the armory shed in Vietnam). They are from being a police officer with no ear protection in the 70's through the 90's with those damn car sirens going off.

Good for Jesse Neal. I hope he enjoys his job and is happy to get out of bed every day and go to work.
And if he is working the ammo counter, save some .22 for me!

Well, it's a change of pace from how most TNA wrestlers work at Wal Mart during their careers. I smell an invasion angle-"What's Shane Douglas doing in the automotive zone??"
