I too would like to know the answer to this. It's the creepiest thing since time travelling Daniel Bryan. He shaved to film those two movies we shall never speak of. His sextapes with Stephanie and Shawn weren't that bad...

And both Orton and AJ Lee have been booked like that recently, proving someone hasn't learned their lesson. Heels are not supposed to overcome the odds, they are supposed to be the odds. Funny thing is, they previously booked a heel perfectly like that and it was during Kurt Angles first run as champion. Every month he was booked against someone who should have beaten him no problem but he can't finding some way to sneak a win or cheat, and it pissed everyone off. lawl You can book an undeserving champion while still making them a competent heel, it's just that everything about Miz's run was done to launch other angles. (Miz's feud with Lawler was really about Lawler vs Cole. Miz's feud with Orton was used to launch CM Punk vs Orotn, Miz's feud with Cena was self-explanatory.) So yeah, I do find it unfair to completely blame Miz on his run being lackluster. But it's not about the story, it's his work. His promos were terrible, he tried being this big bad ass and it failed terribly. His matches weren't much better, with the best being against Morrison and the ladder match against Lawler. Both helped by the use of weapons and in Morrison case, a guy who can pull off good spots. As a midcard guy, he was protected under that umbrella but when tasked with being the focus, he failed as his shortcomings had a brighter spotlight on them. I just hate that anyone who has any criticism towards him is written off as just a "hater", some sheep who follows an imaginary hivemind or, my favorite, jealous because he bangs Maryse. It's possible that someone just might not be a fan of the guy.

It's possible that someone just might not be a fan of the guy. For me, it's two things about the Miz criticism (dunno if you in particular say them). One is trying to cast him as Just Not Good Enough For The Spot, as if there's some magic main eventer gene that he wasn't born with. That's annoying because it phrases an opinion as an objective fact, albeit one that can never be proven or disproven. And it's especially iffy with The Miz because he was BOOKED as Just Not Good Enough, so it makes you go hmmm if someone has that same opinion and is acting like it wasn't at all influenced by the way he was portrayed. The other is related: completely ignoring the lousy booking and blaming everything on him as a performer. A big part of him "trying to be a bad ass and failing miserably" is that he never got a chance to dominate anybody. The heel/face thing is the best example of this, but Miz's character was a MESS when he was champ. His motivations and behavior made no sense, and that if you think that's Mike Mizanin's fault, you're aiming wrong.

I think the 'he didn't deserve it' is valid though. Yeah, as his heel character that was the point, but he's also showed since then that he never should've been on that level/was way over his head in the first place; not just character wise, but the real guy.

His motivations and behavior made no sense, and that if you think that's Mike Mizanin's fault, you're aiming wrong. How he delivers his promos, how he wrestles, how he presents himself has nothing to do with the booking and those are the reasons I'm not a Miz fan. Booking him as a badass who also can't win a match without everybody and their mama interfering was stupid but it's a 50/50 split in terms of who's to blame. Almost everyone has gone through shit booking, but it's also up to the guys involved to elevate that material. And the problem was, he didn't. His promos in the build to WrestleMania 27 are pretty much forgotten and while playing third banana to Cena and Rock doesn't help, they weren't good on their own either. That's why people say he wasn't main event material. Some people just aren't. He was fine in the midcard. Having him as the top heel in the company? That's where he got exposed. None of this is mentioning everything after his title reign. The last three years haven't done much to prove why he should have been a top guy in the company.

Miz wasn't that bad of a champion, I would have preferred him to be booked a little more cowardly and cheating, using the ropes for pins, grabbing the tights during pins, heck even use brass knuckles when referee wasn't looking etc.

Now I get why Miz was so angry with COO HHH in 2011.

The Nas "Hate Me Now" promo from Wrestlemania 27 is still absolutely amazing. One of my favorite pre-match promo videos ever.

I thought Miz had some great promos during the Rock/Miz/Cena feud. The problem is, no matter how good your promos are, if the Rock ignores you 90% of the time and focuses solely on Cena (which he did) then you're not going to be integral to the feud. The Miz made some great efforts to make himself more than an afterthought, but really I think booking and the push for Cena/Rock friction to set up the next couple wrestlemanias undermined him. He really tried to stay relevant but honestly, I feel like the deck was stacked against him. I could be remembering this wrong but hadn't he technically won his match against Cena before the Rock butted his nose in so that they could get the big confrontation between them?
