NJPW (6/12/86) - Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Akira MaedaOne of the best matches of 80's New Japan. Two fan favorites/top draws in a clash that defined an era. Fujinami gets pummeled and sells like a champ throughtout the match. Maeda's in control most of the time and dishes a beating equivalent to Lesnar. Fujinami draws you in with his comeback and doesn't hold back when it's his turn to f*** shit up. Well-paced, dramatic, and intense is what describes this bout. The finish is what kinda ruins it but hey, that's 80's NJPW for you. Check this out and here are some of the highlights.

NJPW (7/13/95) - Keiji Mutoh© vs. Hawk Warrior (IWGP Heavyweight Championship)Here's a match where Hawk displays his true skills as a singles wrestler. This is also his first and only challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight title. Some good matwork shown here and the pace is consistent. Plus Hawk is more athletic here and shows off his workrate which was interesting. Weak finish by the end, but overall, a good match. Here's a preview:

NJPW (1/18/80) - Tatsumi Fujinami & Kantaro Hoshino vs. Dynamite Kid & Steve Keirn (2/3 falls match)Dynamite and Baby Skinner make one hell of a tag team in this one. Lots of stuff to enjoy; good action, pacing, heat and produces a fresh and exciting tag match. Only drawback is that it suffers from is a lackluster beginning. Other than that, this is the goodies. Here's a preview:

NJPW (12/9/83) - Tatsumi Fujinami, Akira Maeda & Kengo Kimura vs. Riki Choshu, Animal Hamaguchi & Yoshiaki YatsuMore Fujinami/Choshu goodness. This marks Yatsu's debut in New Japan. Fujinami and Choshu go at it as usual while a green Maeda and Yatsu develop heat. This was a brawl no doubt. Also the first time Ishingun wrestle as a group and they do not disappoint. Quality tag wrestling, good showing from Kimura and Yatsu and a wild brawl to end it all? Yeah, this rocks. Here's a preview:

AJPW (6/11/76) - Terry Funk© vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (NWA World Heavyweight Championship; 2/3 falls match)Another one of my all-time favorite matches of 70's puroresu/All Japan. 3 years into his career and Tsuruta is already hanging with the very best. Wonderful exchanges and a clear example of what good wrestling resembles. The first fall is just tremendous because its pace and matwork is so fluid and concise that it's mesmerizing. Second fall was great too, albeit, a bit slow which is fine.Terry is amazing as always but '76 was a great year for Jumbo matches, because you get to see him in the role of a young feisty talented underdog. This is premium-quality old-school puro and I'd highly recommend it. Here's le preview:

UWF (12/5/84) - Nobuhiko Takada vs. Kazuo Yamazaki (WON 5-Star match)This one is a bit slow to start but once they stopped playing around, it's enjoyable. Great transitions and action here as always moves that you wouldn't normally see in a (worked) shoot match. Interesting to see that old UWF allowed pinfalls back in the 80's. Both men are 2 years(!) into their career and already made a name for themselves. Personally, I'd rank this match at 4 1/2 stars because of its slow beginning and weak finish but hey, who am I to doubt the almighty Meltzer? Anyway, here's a preview:

NOAH (8/6/00) - Kenta Kobashi vs. Jun AkiyamaNOAH's first big angle since its inception. After NOAH's first main event (Misawa/Taue vs Kobashi/Akiyama), Akiyama turns on Kobashi and nails him with a backdrop. Feeling overshadowed by the 4 Heavenly Kings, this was NOAH's attempt at building Akiyama as a top star. This match is a small preview to what their 5-Star classic came to be in December. The drawback is that since this is supposed to be a blood feud, they wrestle regularly as they normally would. The match of course, is really good. Great spots, selling, and an interesting finish to cap it off. I will never get tired of these together so you should watch it. Their next match will be in the next installment. Here's a preview:

NOAH (12/23/00) - Kenta Kobashi vs. Jun Akiyama (WON 5-Star match)One of the very first puro matches I ever saw. Excessive and flabby in parts, but they also get a LOT right in terms of layout, sequences, payoffs, and build. Akiyama tenaciously works on the arm greatly but Kobashi shows tremendous fighting spirit in working through his arm injury to hit a half-nelson suplex to knock Akiyama out. Another classic King's Road match that continue its lineage of epic matches and elevated the careers of both. As always, here's a preview:

HUZZAH! I RETURN AFTER MANY MONTHS OF NOT POSTING AWESOME MATCHES OF PURORESU! Now I finally have time to sypnosize the timeless classics from the Orient! *spits green mist in the air* Yeah I haven't had the time to review these matches as school was taking up most of my time but thankfully, now that 1st semester has ended, I can do stuff I enjoy! I think I should do these weekly from now on seeing as oppose to cranking reviews 3-4 days of the week. I hope that's fine with you guys and I'm glad that everyone has enjoyed these. Thanks, FAN. AJPW (6/13/03) - Shinya Hashimoto© vs. Satoshi Kojima (Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship)Kojima's over, brother! No seriously, Kojima has gotten big pops equal to Mutoh around this time. As evident when he does his Ichauzo Bayakaro elbow from the corner. However, he's taking on the newly crowned Triple Crown champ, Destruction King Hashimoto. Slow start which leads to a great chop battle. Hash's chops are so f-ing brutal man. Imagine Kobashi/Hashimoto(which I'm surprised it never happened). Koji wants to prove to his former mentor that he can give an ass beating just as good as Hash can deliver. Of course, Hash ain't gonna take shit from a young'un. They feed off each other quite well and deliver killer shots to each other. Underrated match from Post Baba era AJPW. Enjoy these highlights:
