Okay, that's a wordy Subject, I know.
I just watched THE FAMILY which stars Robert De Niro as a member of the mafia in witness protection. As part of his new cover, he claims to be an author to a neighbor which leads to him later getting a call from a town member asking if he'd be willing to come to a film discussion on an American based film about an author. After a switch up, he arrives and they announced they got the wrong movie. Instead of the first, they now have...GOODFELLAS.
Therefore, De Niro's character watches De Niro act in GOODFELLAS and then talks about his own life in reference to it.
So, what other movies have you noticed where the character the actor is playing watches a movie starring said actor?

"Affleck, you da bomb in PHANTOMS!"
Also, there was an episode of Married With Children where Al is on a flight, and is forced to watch the film DUTCH (which stars Ed O'Neill).

I'd say Ocean's 12 where they make Julia Robert's character impersonate....Julia Roberts.

In "The Projectionist", an obscure 1970's film starring Chuck McCann and Rodney Dangerfield in his first role, they advertise the movie during the film, and show McCann attending the premiere as himself. Weird movie.

Here's an old school one: The Seven Year Itch, where it is remarked that "The Woman" looks like Marilyn Monroe.
And in How to Marry a Millionaire, Lauren Bacall's character talks about men who married younger women, including "what's his name from the African Queen."

In Battle Royale 1 and 2, Kitano and Takeuchi use their real names, only they are teachers instead of actors, does this count?

In the series Spaced, Simon Pegg's character makes a comment about every odd-numbered Star Trek film being shit. Guess who turns up in the 11th film?

There's an old movie called "The Christmas Wish" in which a character played by Jimmy Durante wants to get home in time to watch "The Jimmy Durante Show".

In Modern Family, Cam and Mitch go to see The Muppet Movie, Ty Burrell would go on to be in Muppets Most Wanted

BLAZING SADDLES, where for a moment Hedley Lemarr is watching BLAZING SADDLES (and even reacts to the next scene).
SPACEBALLS, as well - Rick Moranis watching the movie on videotape to see where Princess Vespa and the others are.

Not movie or TV Show related but on The Who's album, "Quadrophenia", during the song, "The Punk and the Godfather", Jimmy meets The Who backstage at their show and is spurned by them.

In Modern Family, Cam and Mitch go to see The Muppet Movie, Ty Burrell would go on to be in Muppets Most Wanted Ah, ah, ah, only counts if it was the movie he WAS in. Ironically, I am going to go for my own loophole: My Name Is Earl existed in "real life" in the Raising Hope universe. All the Earl actors/actresses eventually were on RH as different characters. /P.S. while I am mentioning the show, here is the daily F-you to Fox.

I heard in the rumo red sequel to Forrest Gump, Forrest would go to Hollywood to see a movie about his life starring Tom Hanks. Forrest does meet Tom Hanks in the sequel novel, but I don't recall the circumstances.
