After being forgotten about and losing any semblance of overness, he lost the IC belt clean to BNB. So after the rematch for the belt and the obvious job what does he do next?
Go to NXT? Turn heel and maybe even join the real Americans? Stay face in linger in the Kofi zone of babyfaces? Face Rusev in Rusev's quest to defeat the African American man?

I figured it was a matter of time until he lost the title. Big E was good enough to be Intercontinental Champion in a company with two World Titles and the majority of the uppercard wrestlers going after the World Heavyweight Championship. But with WWE trying to build the IC Title back up to being a respectable #2 title, I'd say that the title needs Barrett, a guy who was the top heel in the company at one time, and is now pretty hot with the audience, more than Big E needed it.
I hope Big E is still featured somewhat regularly.

Heel turn, could have been a good choice for the next Paul Heyman guy.

maybe let him actually have a personality? Yep, he had one on NXT and it worked well, the guy is naturally a bit weird so play on that.

He'll be fine. If Barrett can win the belt multiple times...
I'd like to see him be the "rekindled fire" guy, fighting all the top heels to prove himself to himself. Eventually, get the title back or get involved in bigger matches.

Fully agree with the previous comment about his lack of personality holding him back. Hopefully he is given some sort of character because the only reasons I seem to have been given to get behind Big E by Creative is "Look he is a big strong guy, cheer this man".

He has a tremendous personality and nerdy charisma, he'll catch well if allowed but they've made him boring. He was getting over well and then removed him from TV. Maybe let him be a funny but dominant heel for a while, the crowd turned on him.

I hope Big E is still featured somewhat regularly. Honestly, while Barrett is an over act, he's not a ton more credible, or at least, not yet. He had some pretty piss poor runs with the IC title before this, after all. A lot of this is likely balance. Before Extreme Rules, ever single champion was a face. They needed at least one heel, and Bryan and Paige are not likely dropping their belts for a bit, so it was him or the Usos.

Big E actually has personality. They just don't utilize that sort of stuff until they're heel. Don't know why.

He needs to show his mean streak more.

But who does get a chance to show personality on TV as a babyface?
Big E is kinda doomed, in that regard. Not to mention, he's kinda weird, which Creative won't know what to do with.

They just don't let him show it on WWE Television for some reason. It's the Jericho Tenet: It's much easier to be a heel than a face. Being a heel requires a slightly nuianced a--hole-ness. As a face, wrestlers need to find a way to tiptoe between edgy and wholesome. Sadly, many wrestlers only have a personality when they are jerks. Not Big E, however, because he is a little weird, and some people wouldn't get him. That's unfortunate, but we all know The E's track record of allowing talent to develop themselves...

Oh I know the man himself has personality. They just don't let him show it on WWE Television for some reason. For some reason, they think having a midcard title should be enough to get someone over, which means they don't have to book feuds, defenses, or character moments. Then when the guy fails to get over, they throw their hands up in the air and say "I guess he just doesn't have 'it!' I mean, we gave him the intercontinental title, and he didn't get over!" I think, also, perversely, they like throwing people out there without giving them anything to work with, because then if they succeed then they really must deserve it, or something.

Going by his post-show press conference thing, he may indeed be turning heel.

I loved the press conference he had on the post PPV show. Showed a different side of him that nobody has seen on WWE TV so far. If he can show that side of his personality more, then he can stand out from a lot of other people in WWE.
