He just had some bad luck, got hurt and could never get back to that level he was on in College. That said, it's great that he has a positive attitude about it. A unique perspective on things.
Also, this article mentioned Stephen Curry's mother and she definitely has it going on.

Oden is a rare case because it wasn't his fault he didn't live up to the huge expectations and it also isn't his fault a one of a kind talent in Durant was selected right behind him.
It's a shame injuries halted a promising career before it even got started.

I've never bought that he's a bust. He's a bust if he plays and stinks for four years. He never even got the chance. None of what happened to him is his fault. Just unfortunate circumstances all around.

He's like Pervis Ellison, but even Ellison was healthy for the better part of one year and put up numbers worthy of a. #1pick

yeah I think it's due to injuries not lack of talent

I think Oden's being too hard on himself. He's definitely not a bust. A bust is someone who can't make it because of their lack of talent or bad attitudes. Oden's just had horrific luck with injury. I think if he stayed healthy he would've been as big as Durant.
All that said, I have a lot of respect for him. He's a genuinely good and modest guy, and I hope he gets to win a ring with the Heat.

Yeah, I don't think the guy should be held accountable for circumstances beyond his control. I'm hoping that next season he signs with a team that plans to give him actual minutes. I mean, I know the days of him being a starting center is finished, but I'd like to see his career get a second wind.

I read it as "butts", like the guy thinks he's an ass but doesn't want to commit to swearing. "I'm such a butt, guys."

He's basically Bill Walton without the one good season in Portland.

He does qualify as a bust to me, but like others have said, it's not really his fault. He couldn't help his injuries, those things happen sometime. He's not a Jamarcus Russell type, talented but lazy. He was talented, he just got derailed because he got injured.

To me Andrew Bynum and Eddy Curry are bigger busts...

To me Andrew Bynum and Eddy Curry are bigger busts... Bynum is at least a former all star. Compare that to someone like Joe Alexander (to 10 pick who only played 2 seasons)or Kwame Brown, both of whom I think were bigger busts than Oden.

He's basically Bill Walton without the one good season in Portland. And even Walton had the great sixth man run with the '86 Celtics. Oden just has nothing. I'm glad he's found peace with his career and I wouldn't be lying if I said I'd be happy to see him get a ring, but I feel like had the circumstance been different, he could've been great. Edit: Oden is a rare case because it wasn't his fault he didn't live up to the huge expectations and it also isn't his fault a one of a kind talent in Durant was selected right behind him. It's a shame injuries halted a promising career before it even got started. So he's Sam Bowie 20 years on? What is it with Portland and choosing fragile centers over guaranteed megastars?

All Star? Hes a cancer to any team and gets his hair cut during halftime....Hes a prima donna that is making money off his size and really doesn't give a shit about the game, his health, or his teammates

it always sucks when a young guy with a lot of talent ends up bitten by the injury bug early in his career. I'll give him kudos for acknowledging it, though, and to give him credit it's not due to a lack of skill or inability to adapt or attitude like a lot of other big draft busts.

For at least a little while, Bynum was a good but inconsistent player, certainly good enough not to top the list of worst ever Michael Olowokandi was drafted #1. Bynum just just got lazy and full of himself.

Sam Bowie is a bigger bust...Think of Jordan not on the Bulls...Ewing was almost a Pacer and became the nemesis...Alot of people throw off on Kwame Brown but he became a decent rotating player...I hate more on guys like Keon Clark...and sadly as it is in a fans perspective Rose is a bust...Without Noah carrying that team year in and year out the Bulls would be picking first...It's sad
