I'm just saying that most teams that would win the lottery are a few years off from competing and by that time I'd rather have McDavid coming into his prime by then rather then a 30 year old great player at a bigger cap hit Crosby's cap hit actually looks like a bargain compared to other bigger and more crippling cap hits of Perry, Getzlaf, Malkin, Ovechkin, PK Subban, and the monstrosity of Kane/Toews crippling the Blackhawks unless they get Hossa to retire or if the Canadian economy improves. Plus the cap isn't going to get much bigger with expansion for years. I can't imagine what McDavid would command if he lives up to the hype. Hopefully he does a Sidney Crosby and accepts the same contract structured to have the same cap hit as his contract he signed as a RFA so he gets payed like a top player, but gives enough space for the team to become a contender every year. Pittsburgh could be great without Crosby and having McDavid instead since they are a good team without Crosby and Malkin since they have incredible depth but if Pittsburgh got rid of Crosby just like that, it would have a major ripple effect of making Pittsburgh an unattractive market for free agents and players with NMC if that's how they treat their franchise player who has been extremely loyal, the locker room veteran of the team, one of the longest tenured guys on the team, and is a class act outside of the ice and the city of Pittsburgh. Plus it probably piss off many of the current players their creating paranoia and asking to leave. I do agree McDavid would be great on bad teams with too many veterans and not enough solid young prospects (Toronto, Carolina, New Jersey for the love of God) but a bad team with too many young players with potential and not enough veterans would benefit more in the short or long term having Crosby on their team as their mentor (Edmonton, Florida, Arizona)

Clinching scenarios for tonight (April 2nd)
The Blues clinch a playoff berth with a point against the Flames OR if Kings lose to the Oilers in Regulation
The Blackhawks clinch a playoff berth with win against the Canucks OR if they get one point AND both the Flames and Kings lose (any fashion) OR if either the Kings or Flames lose in regulation. The Blackhawks cannot clinch if they lose in regulation.
The Rangers will clinch the Metropolitan Division with a win against the Wild.

If the LA Kings doesn't make it to the playoffs they really have no chance but to blame themselves at this point. They play two games against the Oilers and Byfuglien is suspended for 4 out of the 5 games remaining for the Jets. Seriously I really hope Winnipeg makes it to the playoffs. They probably have the most entertaining crowd in the league and that building is going to break some record NHL Playoff decibels for sure.

Also that game has a good chance of being an early Stanley Cup Final preview. Seriously I hope Dubnyk wins all the awards. Can't wait to see the look of Craig MacTavishe's face if that does happen. Probably something worse then this

#HereComesTheOilers
Craig MacTavish has said a few weeks earlier he's very confident with this defensive group next season. May I remind you this guy is a National Hockey League General Manager

Rasmus Ristolainen of Buffalo Sabres showing his potential lately. 3+4 in four games in Buffalo.
Also, Finnish top prospect Mikko Rantanen is currently a firm contender for Mens World Championships squad.

Stupid Avs keep losing the the Oilers and other non playoff and bubble teams, but beat contenders. They can still technically make the playoffs, but the odds are about as slim as possible. They have to win every game, the Kings and Jets have to lose them all. Among other things.

It amazes me that the Pens are actually in danger of missing the playoffs. If they don't make it, something needs to be done. Not Crosby or Malkin getting traded, but something.

Rangers get their 50th win of the season in a 6-1 beatdown of the Devils. Didn't think they'd make that mark the way things were going at the beginning of the season.

God dammit Oilers. I don't want to see the f***ing Flames in the playoffs this year. You just had one job Edmonton. I seriously would rather have the Canucks in the playoffs then the Flames. Yes I'm aware if Calgary makes it to the playoffs this season more pressure on Lowe/MacTavish but I don't want to endure the annoying bandwagon of Flames fans getting out of hibernation. f*** YOU EDMONTON! You could of gloriously trolled Calgary tonight possibly ruining their post season chances!

If nothing else it seems likely there will be more Canadian teams than there have been in ages. Also the Avs are done. It sucks, but they had so damn many injuries this year, they never could find a groove.

Next Oilers game they play against? Nah. I can't even care anymore. This was probably the worst ever Oilers team ever assembled. The whole team is broken. Scrivens confidence is broken. MacTavish somehow makes the team worse whenever he tries to fix it. I'm just waiting for the results of Bob Nicholsons internal forensics audit of the team. Nah it means nothing. I can't even get excited for next season. I feel like if Lowe and MacTavish survived this season without being fired, nothing could ever bring them down. Not even missing the playoffs next season. In which if they do they'll tie the Florida Panthers of longest playoff drought in the history of the NHL

Did Edmonton make a deal with the Devil for that 2006 Stanley Cup run?
Since then, they have fallen off and below the face of the Earth.
From 1997-2004, they only missed the playoffs twice.
For about a decade, they were a solid team. Now, they're the laughingstock of North America

Did Edmonton make a deal with the Devil for that 2006 Stanley Cup run? Since then, they have fallen off and below the face of the Earth. From 1997-2004, they only missed the playoffs twice. For about a decade, they were a solid team. Now, they're the laughingstock of North America Easy. Glen Sather handed the keys to Lowe. That 2006 team core was a lot of guys Glen Sather before giving the keys to Lowe. Plus a poor ownership, threat of relocation, and no salary cap made everyone work harder. Also the philosophy has changed. In the 90's and mid 2000's it was all about getting lucky in having one or two skilled guys in the team (Weight, Arnott, Hemsky) while surrounding them with size and grit and having a goalie that can play clutch when needed (Cujo, Salo, Roloson). Then around 2009-2010 was when they had a different booking philosophy that grit and size isn't needed to win games, it's having lots of skill and speed and the rest is history. The first few years of the post salary cap era were pretty high scoring and that's what they thought was the magical formula was. Also it's Katz fault the most. They have been terrible ever since Katz took over the team in 2007 and a big reason why was management never felt the pressure there jobs were on the line since Katz was one of the few non hockey personal that was allowed to party with the 80's Oilers. Like he was close friends with Lowe back when he was a lawyer working for the City of Edmonton and before he became a pharmaceutical tycoon. In fact it was actually Lowe that allowed Katz to be in the Oilers dressing room. The irony is Katz is known to be a ruthless non forgiving boss within corporate Rexall who doesn't tolerate bullshit and mistakes and doesn't allow a lot of second chances. My theory is that Lowe has tons of blackmail photo's of Katz during the 80's and he can't be fired as long as the team is making a profit every year, in which they are because our population is very mobile and we're the closest major city to Fort McMurray the richest oil city in the world for workers. If Oil Prices keep going down and if Alberta's economy takes a hit next Oiler's season, it might finally cause Lowe to get fired. There is actually a weird correlation that the Oiler's are at their best when the economy is terrible, and are at their worst when the economy is great. So I'm faced with the question do I want to struggle paycheck to paycheck or do I want to see the Oiler's win.

Who exactly was Edmonton's owner from 1997-2006?
