So I have to watch Nicolas Cage and his ridiculous hair and accent wreck shit.
"I'm gon' show yew god does exist..."
And how is it possible this wasn't directed by Michael Bay? This is one of the most Michael Bay movies ever.

When this movie was about to come out, I would watch the trailers and say, "Man this is gonna be epic!"
Then when it came out on video, I was excited to behold the epicness.
So I watched it.
... it lacked epicness.

Calling Con Air a Michael Bay movie is an insult to the film. It never gets as obnoxious and self indulgent as Bay's work and clearly enjoys its silly premise without being over the top about it.

This is going to sound stupid, but when i first saw the trailers i was like "Woah, Steve Austin's in this film!" (referring to Cyrus the Virus). To be fair, they do look similar, paticularly on the VHS/DVD box cover. And of course, who can forget the movie defining irony: "A plane full of people partying to a song made famous by a band who died in a plane crash"

Well, both Con Air and The Rock are Jerry Bruckheimer productions starring Nicolas Cage. So the confusion is understandable.
Anyway, I dig Con Air. It's a lot of fun.

If it was a Michael Bay movie, US Air Force fighter jets would have been involved, with a slow-motion shot of a US flag fluttering in front of the Sun.

If I recall, the hero of the movie is an ex-marine who went to prison for beating to death 4 guys who threatened to rape his wife. So yeah, there's a bit of "America, F*** Yeah!" there.

Put da bunneh. Back in da bawks. Christ, what was Nicolas Cage thinking with the accent/hair in that film? Most probably something along the lines of "I'm getting paid lots and lots of money."

The characters were too likable for this to be a bay film. And this movie is actually enjoyable.
