Pirates of the Caribbean. I didn't hate the first 2. The 3rd was passable and anything after that was/is completely unnecessary

And I'll probably get shit for saying it, even though I like the 3rd movie...Toy Story. You have started something you will not be able to finish.

I can't agree with that as it would have robbed us of Part 2, which would have been a terrible loss for all of cinema. Besides, the "based on a true story" claim is bullshit (Leatherface is VERY vaguely inspired by Ed Gein and that's about it). Plus I actually found the original kind of dull for the most part. I know the film isn't actually based on a true story, I mean more in terms of the tone of the flick being more real. I didn't care for any of the sequels, which basically felt like remakes to begin with. But even still, an isolated incident of insanity feels way scarier to me than a "franchise" of them (even though I've enjoyed flicks in other horror franchises). Hm, fair enough. It's also a problem with Saw. In the first movie it's somewhat believable that Jigsaw would manage to catch these people and put them into his "games" (albeit with some help) without getting caught because he kept it simple, but as the series progressed, you can't help but wonder "okay, how the f*** is nobody noticing people setting up this bullshit?". And Yeah, Paranormal Activity is the worst offender with this kind of stuff. I might buy that this shit would get filmed once, maybe twice. By the fifth time I'm like "well it sure is f'n convenient that all these people who supernatural stuff happened to and who are all related to the same story were all obsessed with documenting every single second of their lives so we can know every single detail despite it supposedly being caught by chance". Hell even if they did want to make sequels, they had the perfect setup for an anthology series or for a mocumentary but nope, they stubbornly insist on making direct sequels, making this storyline decreasingly believable with each new movie.

The Matrix is the obvious one. They really killed it off with 2 weak story's that made sure everything great was replaced with stupid crap. If they had left it at 1 movie, they could have hunted around for an epic script and made far more money on the sequal then they did by churning out 2 movies.

I've heard "Taken" got a second movie. And a third movie is coming out soon. I must ask "why?".

Best of the Best.
Part 2 (underground fight club) was pretty good. Part 3 (vs. white supremacist group, including very disturbing scene of a black minister being beaten to death at the beginning) was horrible. Part 4 (vs. the Russian mafia) was cheesy as hell.

Here's another one, Poison Ivy. Here's another one, K-9. Has two sequels. WHY? Are you asking if people needed to see Alyssa Milano and Jaime Pressly naked? The answer is yes.
In K-9's case it's because they were to chickenshit to kill the dog in the 1st one. Turner and Hooch FTW!

Personally, I never minded "Robocop 2." Sure, it was lackluster compared to the original, but I kind of enjoyed it. However, with the ending of the original movie being the way it was, a sequel wasn't really necessary. However, I never had a problem with "Robocop 2." I have never seen the third and many people have told me that I really should not see it.

I know, Jerry Lee should've taken out that animal played by Jim Belushi before he even managed to weasel him away from Ed O Neill.

I never understood why that light comedy-drama film with Sandra Bullock and Viggo Mortensen needed to be turned into a zombie outbreak film series, though Danny Boyle and his team did a fine job with those next two films. Still, the tone was so much different from the first film.

The Matrix
First film wrapped up nicely. Neo beat the machines. He got the girl. The prophecy came true. The Matrix collapsed. End of.

Yep, when I watched the first movie, I was never left with a desire to see exctly how Neo would defeat the machines. That was irrelevant. Then they basically retconned his unique powers with a single word, a couple of minutes into the sequel.

JAWS
It wasn't so much that the first film didn't deserve sequels, but rather how they went about doing them.
In Jaws 2, the shark for some reason only wanted to eat teens. In Jaws 3, it somehow got into a waterpark, and in 4, it hated Lorraine Gary
The first film contained references to two possible spin offs which could have been awesome. The original plan for Jaws 2 was to base it around Quint's experiences on the USS Indianpolis. A second spinoff could have been based on the 1916 shark attacks on the Jersey coast.
Jaws, Jaws: Indianapolis, and Jaws: 1916 would have been an awesome trilogy. Same theme but each being unique.
