Yea you do, if you can't raise a child with a dedicated 2.6k going toward her a month, you shouldn't have custody. 10k a month is ridiculous. It would be cheaper for him to have custody and hire a full time nanny Then why doesn't he? Man I wish I was a decent looking chick so I could get knocked up by an athlete and never have to work a day in my life for a six figure pay day. Sucks for Mario Chalmers having to pay to support the lifestyle of a hookup gone bad. He gets all the fun of a daughter with none of the work, and all he has to do is contribute a miniscule fraction of his salary to her. Plus, he got to have sex without all the boring and buzzkilling responsibility of a condom! It's a bargain, really. I'll save my sympathy for people with real problems. I don't know how to respond to that second paragraph, you think Mario chalmers didn't work his ass off for his lifestyle? You think $10k a month is equal to sex without a condom? It's his money. He can spend it however he pleases. He's not obligated to take care of his baby mother. If the chick can't take care of her daughter then Chalmers should have custody. How does HIS lifestyle affect the cost of the mother raising a child? because he has more money she gets more? . If the courts want the daughter to have his life, then she should live with him. Go to any hood in America and give some chick tax free $2600 a month, and she'd hit a cartwheel cross the block but this woman can't make it work, so she need $10k a month. FAN gonna pretend this 10k going to the daughter?

Unless it's some special circumstances, like the child having a disease or so, shouldn't child support be the same, no matter what the parent in question is making? Sure, it might change with the child's age, with a 1-year old getting $X and a 7-year old getting $Y, but I don't see why the child of rich and famous guy A is unable to get by on the same money that the child of middle class guy B gets.

This exactly, she didn't go to the courts saying her daughter can't eat, or they struggling to make ends meet. She went to the court saying "look how much money he spending, I want more" and It's ridiculous

The lives of professional athletes and their families, they are different from yours and mine.)

He doesn't have custody because he wasn't awarded custody. That's why he's paying child support

What kind of custody did he ask for, and when? I looked it up last night, but I couldn't find anything about it.

Awarded is the wrong word to use, their was no custody battle, *that is known* I can't tell you why he's not fighting for custody or assume, since I got the same amount of access to his private life as you. I made my statement based on him paying 10k.

Because in our legal system, the mother almost always gets the child unless they have proof that she's unfit and then it has to be very serious.

Again, why doesn't Chalmers have custody? (Also, any dude in any hood in America would be turning backflips at getting a fraction of Mario Chalmers' salary or being told their childcare payments are only gonna be 3% of their salary per year, so yeah. The lives of professional athletes and their families, they are different from yours and mine.) Because in our legal system, the mother almost always gets the child unless they have proof that she's unfit and then it has to be very serious. My dad eventually got custody of me a couple of years after the divorce. My mother was not proven incompetent or anything and retained full visitation rights. He just proved himself more capable of taking care of me and was awarded custody of me despite being from out of state (his job had moved him to IN and I and my mother were in NV). Considering that Chalmers can afford a good lawyer, had he really wanted to push the issue he should have been capable of doing the same even if the mother was perfectly capable. That is a benefit of having a lot of money. Really, I find it terribly off-putting how many people here are being so upset about child support being as high as it is. Child support is based on both how much both parents make and how much the non-custodial parent makes in comparison to the custodial parent. If the formula had been followed to a T he would have been paying much, much more. If you make a ton of cash you are expected to share a part of that wealth with your child. You should not live in luxury and your child live in a tiny two room apartment in a questionable part of town. If the mother really did not use the money to provide a house, school, and basic needs then he would have great grounds for getting custody. If the mother uses the mother to buy a nice house, then that simply means that the kid gets to live in a nice house (which is something she should get to do anyways). Something that is amazingly offensive is the attitude that some people have towards women that collect child support. If that woman buys nice clothes or gets their nails done, they are treated as though they are abusing the money. Let's say that the woman does not work now that she gets $120/yr from Chalmers. That means that she can dedicate all of her time to child rearing. If she worked, you would expect her to pay cash to someone else for child care. If she eliminates the need to pay for child care by providing it herself, are you telling me that she does not deserve to pay herself a little for that child care? If the child was disabled and received social security payments for that disability the parents would get paid by the government for child care if they provided the care themselves, so it is not exactly something without precedent.

It may not be fair for him, but it's a drop in the bucket for him. Less than 3% of his income? HE worked hard to get to the NBA and probably shouldn't have to pay that much....but I'm having trouble feeling bad for him.

Why does he need an assistant? He's Mario Chalmers. Also $5K a month on vacations? Where's he heading off to? Last I checked his team was still in the playoffs.

When I was paying child support for one child, it was 300 a month and at the time, I was making 9 an hour. Know that I have my child, you want to know how much I get? 0. Because his mother doesn't work. While I was paying child support, my child had old shoes, and older clothes. His child support was going to his mother and her new phones every six months, her three cars, and to support his younger sister. Those are words from his mother's mouth. She isn't the only one, it happens a lot. Child support is abused in this country and could easily be done away with shared parenting.
Like I said the MAJORITY of child custody cases, the child goes to the mother. That's a proven fact that a little Google searching can find.

If anything Mario is beyond stupid for allowing himself to fall for the okiest of dokes. He knew what she was and she knew what he had.
Now to question what's fair depends on your experience with the situation. I've seen shit like this first hand and I know women who move like his bm most likely did. Ghidora pretty much summed up my opinion will all of this craziness.

I made my statement based on him paying 10k. Got it. So if Chalmers never tried to get custody, it must be either what he thought was the best course to take for the child, or the best course to take for himself (or both). But maybe now that the payment is 3%, he'll try to get custody. I guess we'll find out. Because in our legal system, the mother almost always gets the child unless they have proof that she's unfit and then it has to be very serious. I'd like to know about Mario Chalmers and his specific custody situation. Do you know anything at all about it?
