There actually a legit answer to this! Batista said he wanted the WWE Championship match tonight. Daniel Bryan couldn't compete tonight. That's why Triple H said no. At least Stephanie booked the match 4 weeks from now, and has a back-up plan in case Bryan can't wrestle. This! This!

Isn't that the whole point? Batista quit because HHH wasn't standing up for him in a way he could have. HHH didn't want to just give Batista what he wanted, because he knew he had a better, younger option in his back pocket. If HHH just wanted to keep Batista happy, he would have given him the future match like Stephanie did for Kane, and he wouldn't have insulted him by saying Batista would "choke anyway". But he didn't care. In kayfabe, HHH probably would have been OK with a 4-man Evolution for a bit, but Batista was getting kicked to the curb sooner than later. Batista knew it and bailed. Batista quit because he felt feuding with The Shield was a waste of his time. He came back specifically to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion and got tired of being sidetracked by fighting random wrestlers.

And he knew HHH had at least some power to move in that direction but refused to, and insulted him to boot. The complaint here seems to be that hhh wasn't being honest when he claimed there was nothing he could do. But dishonesty is a heel trait, as is selfishness (hhh putting his own needs over what he promised batista).

Yes but I would assume the promise of a 1-on-1 match or even the Championship itself in 4 weeks would be enough for Dave to calm down. But part of Batista's argument was that he kept being promised things that didn't come about. He wanted the title shot now, not another empty promise. And we might assume that was always the plan but then Dave quit so his title shot goes to Kane now.
