Thought I'd make the thread since we have breaking news on the season... REDEMPTION ISLAND HAS BEEN DROPPED! www.rickey.org/survivor-san-juan-del-sur-drops-redemption-island/262398/The reason why hasn't exactly been confirmed, although it could be the result of another piece of news which broke earlier today, in which Probst revealed that two castaways were medically evacuated 48 hours before filming started. This not only leaves us with 18 castaways instead of 20, but also an uneven number of men and women, in addition to a possibly uneven balance of loved ones. I mean, presumably, two castaways will be left without loved ones and will be presumptive free agents from day one, unless the two medically-evacuated contestants WERE a contestant and his/her loved one. Anyway, yeah, nothing else to add other than to do a happy break dance over the departure of RI. Sure, this is the only type of season where RI works (and even then only until the merge), but I'm not upset about losing it in the least. That said, I am curious about what the new twist Probst references will be.

Already bookmarked even though there'll be little to no activity until August. You're a good man Threadkiller.

wow what happened? mentally ill people? I mean I don't like RI, but to be fair, will the Blood vs Water concept be as compelling?

Annnnd bookmarked.
I guess the "people on the street" finally got to Probst enough to dismiss that hideous RI idea. Though admittedly it worked extremely well in the first edition of this concept.

I'm as glad as anyone that RI's gone, but what I don't like is that it took two contestants having to be pulled right before filming for it to happen. I kinda feel bad for those two, because now we'll never know what they could have done in the game.

I think the loss of RI is a result of the lost of contestants prior to start. I think it was planned to appear once again this season

I assume the medivac is probably an older lady and likely her daughter/niece/grandaughter etc lost her spot because of it. If it was 2 guys I am pretty sure Probst would pay out of his pocket to have 2 replacements fly out there in time for filming.

I've always considered Amazing Race the 98° to Survivor and Big Brother's Backstreet Boys & 'N Sync; I have no clue who these people are and I have no desire to find out.

It's not really a fair comparison, because The Amazing Race is a totally different show from Survivor or Big Brother. The most strategic they get in terms of teams making moves that can affect each other is the double U-Turn, and those only pop up on a couple of legs total. It's really about how the two teammates interact with one another, traveling and performing tasks. Some teams try "alliances" but they're generally pointless and an unwanted element in the eyes of the fans.
If we *are* going to compare the shows, then TAR's quality of production absolutely blows Big Brother out of the water. I won't say that about Survivor, because I feel the production standards on Survivor are very high as well, but Big Brother is definitely the inferior one of the three. Also, I'd argue that TAR has the best host of the shows. Phil and his popped eyebrow are as synonymous with TAR as Jeff is with Survivor. He manages to not really show his biases on the mat, but maintains a calm, friendly demeanor. I actually think it's a travesty that the Reality Competition Emmy wins break down as zero wins for Survivor the show and four for Jeff as the host (come on, Survivor hasn't had one season that could net it an Emmy?) and TAR having nine wins for the show, but zero for Phil.
As far as casting goes, sure all three shows have had their gimmicky casting choices, but TAR has never ever sunk to the level of Big Brother 9 or 15. Even with an example like Jonathan from TAR6 or The Weaver Family from TAR8 - they were the exceptions not the rule, and generally disliked by other teams and the fans.
I know it ultimately comes down to preferences and I'm certainly not trying to change minds or tell anyone their opinion is wrong. I just want to stick up for my show because I truly don't think the analogy is a good one, objectively speaking, and this is from someone who watches all three shows.

After asking MGH the best way to break this news to the Survivor community on this forum I regrettably must inform everyone that Caleb Bankston of Survivor: Blood vs Water has passed way due to a work accident. www.gadsdentimes.com/article/20140624/APN/306249619While no name is mentioned, Colton has posted on his own facebook about it and two other former Survivors have mentioned it. Coby Archa posted the following on his facebook... And Mike Skupin tweeted the following: twitter.com/mikeskupin/status/481619678318436352Apparently Caleb and Colton were planning to get married this October. This is really tragic and sad no matter how you feel about either of them. Rest in peace and best wishes to Caleb's family and Colton and his .

Oh my god, that's awful. I really liked Caleb, he seemed very down to earth and had a good mind for the game. RIP Caleb.

I thought that was kind of sad and touching. To avoid spamming a bunch of posts if I find anything else that the Survivor family is saying about this I'll just edit it into this post.
