The guy played for the Cubs for 13 years, he was an All Star and a Gold Glover, got 2000 hits with the Cubs. Didn't win anything. So of course when he leaves for another team. First year there....World Series.

Not a as player, but seeing former Montreal Canadians goal-tending sensation Ken Dryden become the president of hockey operations for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late 90's was pretty surreal.

Forrest Gregg going to the Cowboys in 1971. Jim Kelly playing for the USFL's Houston Gamblers. Curly Lambeau, although not a player at the time, left the team he founded (Green Bay) to go to Chicago and coach them fro two seasons, then Washington for one. Jerry Rice with the Oakland Raiders.

In around 2002, Rasheed Wallace got traded to Atlanta, then to Detroit. He played exactly one game with the Hawks. One.

While I'm happy for him that he got a managing job elsewhere after the Yankees passed on him its still weird seeing Don Mattingly in a Dodgers uniform.

Juan Gonzalez with the Cardinals OK technically he only played with them in spring training, but technically he was with the Cardinals all year, but he refused to report to Triple-A and was on the restricted list all year.

Speaking of the Lambeau example, how about Lombardi coaching Washington right before he died?

As a Green Bay fan, in retrospect, it was obvious the Lombardi dynasty made its last stand in the Ice Bowl. I doubt Lombardi could of even gotten us another division title without making some dramatic changes to the team and his own coaching philosophy.
