The ending intrigued me, I have to admit. The first thing that popped into my mind was the Rani due to how similar the actress who plays Missy looks and sounds to Kate O'Mara. I'm probably looking into things too deep though. Was the first thing I thought of as well... but that might be done intentionally as a red herring.

Today's episode was light hearted fun, enjoyed it a lot. Capaldi's Doctor is starting to give me Tom Baker vibes which is a good thing.

Enjoyed this quite a bit. Nice to have a bit lighter fare every now and then, and I can see the kids loving this one. Clara was awesome throughout, and I love that we got a reference to the best ever interpretation of the Robin Hood legend, CBBC's Maid Marian And Her Merry Men. And Ben Miller looked uncannily like Anthony Ainley at points.

The light and fluffy episodes aren't really my thing but this was quite good for what it was. Certainly way better than Dinosaurs on a spaceship.
I also like the idea that history as we (and the Doctor no less!) know it isn't always entirely accurate. That way there's gonna be more room for surprises from now on whenever they travel to the past. Although I don't really like their version of Robin Hood. I'm sick of this thing that Doctor Who always does with people from the past just taking modern science fiction ideas in stride because they're SMART. Robin was less freaked out at the idea of time-travellers from other worlds than most 21st century companions were. This guy is from a time where people still nailed horseshoes to their doors and windows to ward off evil fairies, he should have had a mental breakdown over the things Clara told him.

I think Robin accepted it because of Clara actually. Clara was clearly a person who Robin liked and from whatever she said he could tell that the Doctor wasn't something to be afraid about. That he and the Doctor were very much alike. Good men doing what they could to do the right thing. Also people in the 12th century might have just been able to accept things like robots as sorcery or magic or something. Even at the start Robin calls the Tardis a magic box.

Even so, you don't just no-sell timetravel. Unless the character is intentionally written as too stupid to grasp the full implications of it, which I don't think was the case here.

Just thought about this, anyone think the Doctor using a spoon in his fight with Robin was a reference to Alan Rickman's line in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves?

Good run so far though one thing that I don't like is how 8 seasons in and still very few non-Earth episodes also the premises of the past 3 episodes have been far too familiar you know from "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Girl in the Fireplace" "aliens desperate for resources" overall I think I've seen all of this before. This season is already better than the last one thought.

Shame that BBC version of Robin Hood isn't still going. They could have had a cross over episode and used actors from that show.
Ben Miller was great, but Keith Allen would have been even better!

Last nights was good
It was one of the rare fun episodes where I didn't want to punch the TV out of irritation

I could have done without the golden arrow shot at the end, but otherwise I loved this episode.
While it's a bit odd everyone accepts time travel, I'm willing to put up with it for narrative convenience, otherwise every other episode would have the Doctor needing to explain time travel, and after the 8th time it might get a bit tired. Just going over Matt Smith's episodes, there would have been an average of 4 times per season he'd have needed to explain it, so 1/3 of his episodes.

I get a horrible feeling that the "promised land" is going to turn out to be galifrey.
I did like the doctor sneakily giving robin hood the finger after he put on the glove to begin the sword/spoon fight

Finally got around to the first two episodes.
Loved the first one, the stuff with Vastra and Jenny and Strax was awesome. And Capaldi won me over with his interaction with the homeless guy. My biggest problem was they upped Clara from being snarky to being a fullblown bitch.
The second episode was worse to her, though. She came off as a total moron in her interactions with Danny, and the attempt to make her the moral compass just didn't work. Although I wasn't a fan of how the Doctor treated Journey, either.
As for the subplot with "The Promised Land," Missy actually scares me. Which means she's doing exactly what a Who villain should be doing.

Ok, finally watched Robot of Sherwood, and I'm of two minds about it. On one hand it was excellently acted by all involved, especially Ben Miller who was absolutely excellent and I'm kinda sad he got killed off because I'd love to see him as some kind of recurring character. Also the Doctor's interactions with Robin were hilarious. In a vacuum it was just a fun, entertaining story.
On the other hand, we know the Robin Hood story has drastically changed in many ways over the centuries to suit the times and the needs and standards of the audience. If there was a historical Robin Hood he probably didn't have much in common with the character that Errol Flynn portrayed. So it's just such a shock to see the Doctor actually stumble onto the historical Robin Hood and have him and his story feel pretty much straight out of the Disney cartoon (with alien robots added in).
