Sure they had to face the worst team in the NL East, but the A's finally win one. Hooray? The fact that the Mets aren't the worst team in the NL East is scary to me

The White Sox have already cleared out the spot where they intend to retire the #14 on Paul Konerko Day next Saturday. Ted Lyons (#16) and everybody after him (Billy Pierce #19, Frank Thomas #35 & Carlton Fisk #72) have been moved down the wall.
If you don't count Jackie Robinson's 42, this will be the team's 10th retired number for a member of the team.

I can't wait til freaking Jeter retires. Which has he gotten more? Verbal and written BJs by the media this year or actual BJs in his lifetime? I want all the chicks he's banged to induct him into the HOF

Heh, one of the Oaklund A's batters walked out to the NWO theme during the Phillies/A's game.

So both the A's and Royals lose. What does Seattle do to make an opportunity out of this? Send in a struggling flyball pitcher who should've been put on ice for the rest of the season and proceed to give up 5 runs in the first 3 innings without scoring none. Brilliant.

Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Sunday that there's a chance Pedro Alvarez (foot) could return if the team advances to the NLDS.

So your defending World Series champions, the Boston Red Sox, have clinched a last-place finish in the American League Eastern Division. While this is obviously disappointing, there is plenty of hope for the future on Yawkey Way. And since the Red Sox season is all but over, with only a weeks' worth of games remaining, I figured why not assemble a 2015 edition of the squad that could contend to return to championship glory.
STEP ONE: Boston trades 2B/OF Mookie Betts, LHP Henry Owens, C Blake Swihart, and RHP Anthony Ranaudo to Chicago for LHP Chris Sale. About a month ago, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes posited that the Red Sox could conceivably strike a deal for Sale. With the young lefty signed to a team-friendly contract through 2017, with club options for 2018 and 2019, Boston would obviously need to bowl over the White Sox. This deal sends Boston's hottest prospect and potential future lead-off hitter in Betts, Boston's top-ranked pitching prospect in Owens, top overall prospect in Swihart, and a developing starting pitcher in Ranaudo to the South Side of Chicago in exchange for the young ace.
STEP TWO: Boston signs RHP James Shields to a three-year, $50 million contract. It's a bit pricy and Shields is 32 years old, but he's a battle-tested starter who has proven that he can handle the rigors of pitching in the AL East. I'd rather the Red Sox overpay on a short-term deal for Shields than spend upwards of $160 million for seven or more years of Jon Lester or Max Scherzer.
STEP THREE: Boston trades RHP Heath Hembree and OF Jackie Bradley Jr. to Miami for C Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The front office would be accepting defeat in making this deal, but they need a catcher who can swing the lumber to platoon with Christian Vazquez. Vazquez is slowly becoming one of the best defensive catchers in baseball, but his bat is not coming along as fast as his glove and arm. Salty would return to Boston to play out the final two years of the deal he signed with Miami to serve as a mentor to Vazquez and additionally step to the plate once every few days. With Hembree, Miami gets a pitcher who could be a future closer and with Bradley, they acquire one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, who, if his bat ever comes along, could be a serviceable everyday outfielder.
STEP FOUR: Boston signs 3B Pablo Sandoval to a four-year, $48 million contract. Boston needs a third baseman, as Will Middlebrooks has simply not developed and cannot be relied upon to be anything more than a pinch-hitter in the bigs. In acquiring Kung Fu Panda, the Red Sox land a player who has displayed remarkable consistency during his career, never hitting below .268 since becoming a starter with the Giants. And if he balloons in weight again, he could be transitioned to first base in the future once Garin Cecchini is ready to take over the hot corner.
All told, here is my ideal 2015 Boston Red Sox lineup and pitching staff:
C - Christian Vazquez, Jarrod Saltalamacchia 1B - Mike Napoli 2B - Dustin Pedroia SS - Xander Bogaerts, Brock Holt 3B - Pablo Sandoval LF - Yoenis Cespedes CF - Rusney Castillo RF - Allen Craig, Daniel Nava DH - David Ortiz
SP - Chris Sale, James Shields, Clay Buchholz, Rubby De La Rosa, Joe Kelly RP - Craig Breslow, Drake Britton, Edward Mujica, Junichi Tazawa, Koji Uehara, Alex Wilson, Brandon Workman, Steven Wright

Any predictions on the final week of baseball? I think the Tigers take the AL Central, Oakland and the Royals take the wild card. Think it's too late for Seattle to do anything, they really screwed the pooch losing 2 of 3 to Houston. Cleveland might make it interesting if they beat the Royals this week but you're basically looking at a 6 game turnaround with 7 games left.
I think the Cardinals take the NL Central, Dodgers the NL West, and the Pirates/Giants are the wild card team.

The NL is pretty much locked in stone right now would take a huge collapse by a team to change the order of anything AL the Royals are not going to mess things up so much as to fall out of the wildcard spot entirely If they had lost today though I would have been worried. I fear that Detroit will win the Central now though.

Cardinals have to play Chicago who are extremely fun to watch and could give St. Louis trouble. Pittsburgh plays the Braves...could be interesting. Judging by the magic numbers, a lot of this could be settled by Wednesday or Thursday.

I have Dodger tickets, so I need them to win the Division so I can go to their weekend game. Otherwise, traffic during the week to get to Dodger Stadium is going to be a pain. What I thought was funny was the Angels had only the Division Series tickets go on sale while the Dodgers released Wild Card, Division Series, and NLCS tickets. Getting ahead of themselves, I think

Really disapointed in the Royals loss but that game deciding half inning was exciting. They should do that more.

In a lifetime of disapointing seasons If they miss even the playin game this season would be the most disapointing.

As a Braves fan, I honestly feel really bad for Frank Wren. Yes, he made some really dumb decisions (BJ Upton, Dan Uggla, etc.), but he's nothing more than a scapegoat. I read one report that said he was let go for wanting to fire Fredi Gonzelez and Bobby Cox wouldn't allow it due to Gonzalez being 'Bobby's boy'.
The Braves need a major restart on the whole organization. They need to start by getting Bobby Cox as far away from the organization as possible. If Fredi Gonzalez is still in the dugout next year, it's going to be really hard to remain a Braves fan. I've been a die-hard one since I was a little kid, but between this shit and the ridiculous decision to move the team, I've just about had enough.

Kinda getting concerned with the Orioles. Dropped 2 out of 3 to Boston and now got shutout against the Yankees.
