Trolls save the commas for their mamas. So now we're eschewing punctuation? Got it. Carry on.

Captain and diet is my drink of choice, by the way. I was just joking around. I didn't figure you were calling me a troll. I was bordering on troll by using eschew, which is a total douche word. If I could send you a bottle of Captain through the Internet I would. Instead, I'll have a drink for you right now, brother!

It was the "Al Capone's vault" of pro wrestling. A moment built up so prominently, only for like literally nothing of any consequence to occur. Sounds like that process happened in reverse... It was just a thing that happened at the time, but it's been built up in the years since, probably because in WWE's eyes this "proved that WCW was all talk and no walk".

It's like the saying, "History is written by the winners", and in this case, WWE won and WCW lost (out of business, remains bought by WWE).

All of this tank stuff would bother me so much if WWE didn't digitally change the sign about tickets being available and saying pretty much that no one was paying to be there.

I remember it.
It was bigger than the moon landing, Miracle on Ice, the musical episode of Buffy, "Who shot JR?", the Super Bowl, the first episode of Crisis, and game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, combined.

The WWE paints this as one of the biggest moments in it's history, yet there still seems to be WWE fans who think that stunts that are basically pot shots at the opposition are bush league and are something that the WWE would never resort to.

I watched it at the time and I thought it was a piss-poor attempt at an "invasion".
So you're just gonna drive up to the arena where Nitro is being held, and shout a lot while they don't acknowledge your presence? Wow, really impressive guys!
Count me amongst those who would have loved Bischoff to have let them in the building.

Ah, this reminds me of the joyous revisionism of the MNW documentary. Mean Gene says the ratings for Warrior dropped into the toilet.
...From PWTorch: 'Ultimate Warrior returned and gave WCW what they wanted - ratings victory over Raw for the second straight week. The 4.9 to 4.2 ratings victory in the two concurrent hours marks Nitro's second win in six weeks and third win in 17 weeks (which includes several weeks when Nitro's timeslot was shifted).
The 20 minute segment with Warrior giving Hollywood Hogan a face-to-face speech fell into a quarter hour that drew a 6.4 rating, one of the highest ever in the history of Monday night wrestling. The 6.4 more than doubled the 3.1 rating that Raw drew for its Brawl for All semi-final of Bart Gunn vs. Godfather. On the downside, for WCW, as soon as Warrior's segment ended, they dropped down to a 4.5 and Raw's rating rebounded to a 4.3.'

Imagine if TNA tried it today?
They'd use a rusty atv instead of a tank.

I'm from the area, and while they did digitally alter the sign, I did in fact have friends that got free tickets to Nitro that were being given away. I went to Raw personally because me and my dad wanted to see Stone Cold.

I still can't forgive Triple H (as a member of the Black Hand section of DX) for killing the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and kicking off the Great War. Even then he botched the first attempt, only to get lucky the second time around.

THAT WAS THE MOMENT WCW WENT OUT OF BUSINESS.
I think there was also a couple of other guys that that helped WWF achieve this too. The Stone? Rock Cold? I don't know. Actually yes, I do. I know that DX invading Nitro was the turning point, brother!

WCW went out of business the very next day, brother. Is it sad that I can totally picture old man Hogan saying this in a retrospective documentary?

Mmm, Nitro's ratings around that whole Aug-Oct '98 stretch were the last time they went pretty even with Raw. After that point (the DDP-Goldberg Havoc replay show), I don't think Nitro never beat Raw again. Can't say Warrior was the only guy responsible, but Nitro's ratings were good around that time thanks to various things including him and they didn't plunge off a cliff. April '99, I think, was the real point of no return. Both for ratings and buys, things just reached a critical mass and it was downhill from there.

I'm not saying Warrior was responsible for good ratings for the show generally, but he clearly generated intrigue based on the ratings correlation and in the MNW documentary they were claiming the ratings were in the toilet for that show, which is flat out untrue, whether it's Warrior's fault or not. (From a subjective perspective, I thought Warrior's promo on that show was one of the best he's ever done.)
