I'm surprised they show it all the time since it requires acknowledging that DX was more than just HBK and HHH.

Mmm, Nitro's ratings around that whole Aug-Oct '98 stretch were the last time they went pretty even with Raw. After that point (the DDP-Goldberg Havoc replay show), I don't think Nitro never beat Raw again. Can't say Warrior was the only guy responsible, but Nitro's ratings were good around that time thanks to various things including him and they didn't plunge off a cliff. April '99, I think, was the real point of no return. Both for ratings and buys, things just reached a critical mass and it was downhill from there. I'm not saying Warrior was responsible for good ratings for the show generally, but he clearly generated intrigue based on the ratings correlation and in the MNW documentary they were claiming the ratings were in the toilet for that show, which is flat out untrue, whether it's Warrior's fault or not. (From a subjective perspective, I thought Warrior's promo on that show was one of the best he's ever done.) Yeah, I should've said I can't say, wasn't saying you were...although we're both on the same page ultimately (no pun!), in that he has to be considered to have been a part of the interest at the time despite how cheesy the feud was. Bottom line, Nitro was still able to beat Raw by October '98 and still fighting until around Apr '99. After that, things got depressing for WCW.

The better statement would have been "Warrior sent WCW's quality down the toilet" which is a more accurate statement than he tanked ratings. A friend of mine, with no provocation, actually said to me "Jim Hellwig killed WCW." I knew what he meant. Not literally that they went under because of Warrior, but that his signing and the awful shows he was involved with tanked WCW's quality and they never really recovered and put on a string of decent shows ever again.
Personally I think putting the title on DDP in April 1999 was a disaster. You don't really hear about it as much, but look at the numbers. They put the title on him at Spring Stampede and did a 4.4 that next night (April 12 I think). He lost it at Slamboree and then Nitro was preempted the next night (which is just baffling). The next Nitro on May 17 did a 3.3. This isn't to say there wasn't a scenario for a decent DDP title win. He could have had the belt for a month or two the previous year in his Hogan feud. But by April 1999 his heat was totally gone, he had done a stretcher job for Steiner at Superbrawl, and came back and oddly turned heel for no good reason. It was the recipe to not draw money.
Say what you want about the Fingerpoke or the Flair/Hogan feud, but it at least was still drawing ratings and PPV numbers. Once Hogan got hurt it really did damage WCW's business, since the whole reunited NWO angle fell apart and WCW's booking just made zero sense.

It's gone the other way now, the segment is now under-rated around these parts. If nothing else it was a nice visual for the DX army, one so effective they returned to it later.
Most importantly it's the best visual representation of WWE (literally) taking the fight to WCW on their side of the Monday Night Wars, with WCW they can show the NWO forming or Madusa putting the belt in the trash (a far more overrated moment) but WWE pretty much just have that segment, Gilberg was great but doesn't quite cut it for advertising/mythology purposes and they're hardly going to show fake Hall and Nash or Billionaire Ted skits.
Yes it's a little revisionist and over-hyped but it's wrestling! Things don't get over-hyped they stay over-hyped!

Even if Bischoff had let them in the building, could they legally be shown on air? Remember, when TNA tried to "invade" the Rumble 2005 promo, they had to blur the faces of the WWE wrestlers.

It was a legendary moment, not just in wrestling, but world history
After defeating WCW that day, the DX army then fought Serbia and ended the Kosovo war, brothas.

You guys remember when this place bitched about this segment more times than WWE has ever talked about it?
For f***'s sake, at least find something else to cry about. Don't got enough Reigns push bitching around here, so try that.

If you want a wall of text about Alex Riley or Zack Ryder or how Daniel Bryan should be top face forever, I'll do it I swear.

Imagine if TNA tried it today? They'd use a rusty atv instead of a tank. We're coming to get you Vince!

I know this has turned into a DX invasion topic (which as a 21 year old at the time, truly felt amazing to watch), I have always felt that the true death blow to WCW and its point of no return was allowing Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn to walk away and subsequently debut on Raw one week later. To me, that was it. WCW had lost (or given away) too much by that point and the WWF became omnipotent.

WCW went out of business the very next day, brother. Is it sad that I can totally picture old man Hogan saying this in a retrospective documentary? "As soon as I saw Triple H on that giant war machine, brother, I knew WCW was finished. As I was watching it backstage, dude, I got on the phone with Vince and I said "Vince, you and I know this war is done and all the Hulkamaniacs know it's done, brother." and I signed a contract with the WWF and the next day I was wrestling in front of a million Hulkamaniacs with the Rock, jack. WCW couldn't survive without Hulk Hogan so WWE ran wild all over it, brother."

Wait you mean outlaws and xpac had beef? Or with the wwe? With the WWE. Pac was never really on bad terms, he needed to get cleaned up. Granted so did the Outlaws, but they were the ones with beef. With X-Pac it was always more "we'd love to involve you with stuff but you need to sober up" As for the segment, I love how when guys who were in WCW were asked about it, they said "It worked for them, but If I were Eric I would have called their bluff and let them into the building because then they would be helping our show."
