Jumping back into watching wrestling after five years away from it. Should I hop back into TNA too? How has it been?
Also in general, any pay-per-views, specials, or matches that you'd say stand out as must see in the past few years? I read on wiki how they've been having specials that replace pay-per-views, split into two weeks of shows? How has that worked out? Are they are as important as pay-per-views?
For the record, while my favorite stuff is a great match, and I especially love the fast-paced "spot fest" style, I also enjoy the funny entertaining trashy side of wrestling as well. Oddly enough, those funny Kevin Nash vignettes from years back are some of the most memorable TNA moments for me. "Shut the front door!"
And I just heard Bubba Ray on Y2J's podcast, has his new character been entertaining? How was his feud with Hogan? Funny?
And what's been going on lately in general? Thanks folks, I appreciate any info you post.

If you want to start back with TNA, just start Thurs., they are rebooting the company and do not bother with much of anything from the Hogan-era. Track down the last few months of 09 for the Styles/Daniels/Joe feud as well as the Angle/Desmond Wolfe feud. It is the time for the annual X Division focus with the Destination X special as well which is usually one of the bright spots.

The Two TNA DVDs worth owning from this era: Both contain absolutely flawless shows that excel on every level that one could measure professional wrestling.

Yeah, Impact would be the best place to start. The company is in a "rebuilding" period so the last five years or so really mean nothing. Hogan and Bischoff showed up, made things significantly worse than it was before they got there because they caused TNA to chase carrots that will never be in their reach, and then rolled out late last year.
Bully Ray used to be the best heel in wrestling. I don't really like his current face character but he's a surprisingly good singles star. Much better than his singles run on Raw in 2002 or so.
As far as funny "lolTNA" train wreck moments go, I highly recommend watching the main event of Destination X 2010 where the main event between TNA World champion AJ Styles and Abyss went to a no-contest due to a big hole in the middle of the ring which Ric Flair, who was managing Styles at the time, fell into. I also recommend Jeff Hardy showing up high as a kite for a world title match at Victory Road 2011 against Sting causing TNA to call an audible and have the big PPV main event end in like a minute. Sting, live on air and clear as day on camera, agreed with the crowd that what just happened was bullshit. There are more funny moments like Sting wearing a Sting mask so he can sneak attack RVD in 2010 but those are the two major things, IMO.

Yeah, the last few weeks(basically since Slammiversary) have been decent-good, better than the preceding weeks, which were, at best, inconsistent.

Whatever you do avoid fall/winter 2013: some of the most boringly bad shows that I've ever seen.

Right on, I'll hop onto Impact again and see how I dig. And I'll try to look back at some choice matches too.

I think it really fell off at the tail end of 2009 and hasn't been able to really rebound since. Its arguably better now that Hogan's gone and they're getting back into focusing on new characters (though the entertainment value of said characters....)

The poster above is right about the DVD's. I would recommend Destination X 2011 and 2012 as those were the best ppv's those two years. The TNA Three-pack dvd's from 2009/2010 are also good. If in case you are wondering what Hogan's TNA run was like, then I would recommend the 2011 twin-packs which are super cheap on Amazon. I would avoid 2012 and 2013 ppv dvd's. The One Night Only shows have some rare decent matches not shown on their TV program. The 50 Greatest moments dvd is good as that highlights TNA from 2002 - 2006, the "Greatest Moments" release in 2010 that has a puzzle cover is one of the worst dvd's ever as it's mostly "Hulk Hogan is our greatest asset and we're gonna make most of these moments based around him". The Enigma vol. 2 is a good companion to the original. The Immortal DVD is only worth owning if you don't plan on buying the 2011 twin packs. 2010's mostly filler but there are some cool throwback shows like Destination X and HardCORE Justice.

What??? Even better, he didn't just fall into it, he Flair-Flopped into it. Actually, I will say that Abyss Chokeslamming AJ through the ring was okay, it's everything after that puts it into the 'absurd' category.

That should be an Abyss specialty match, to win you have to put your opponent into the dangerous pit. Call it a "Black Hole match" or something

When Bully Ray got into the main event initially, it was like someone lit a fire beneath him, he was in the best shape of his career and doing great work on the mic, he put over Austin Aries and was a hilight of the show... Then he got Hogan'd. They turned him face and had him court Hogan's average looking daughter, then turn heel with the Aces and 8's stuff, building over the course of a year toward a match with Hogan that could never happen.
Seriously, his reward for getting it together was sharing the spotlight with Brooke Hogan as part of a main event feud with a guy who can't bend over, let alone take bumps.

Whatever you do avoid fall/winter 2013: some of the most boringly bad shows that I've ever seen. Yeah, the post Aces & Eights/early months of Heel Dixie Carter are just painful to sit through. That was when they tried to fuse the 2011 MITB story with the 2013 Orton push (with Magnus as the Orton- oddly enough, EY as Bryan wouldn't kick in until months later), and it reeked of desperation. It's not great now, but Lashley is a decent champ so far and Willow and the Menagerie have been entertainingly bad.

Bobby Roode World title run was awesome stuff even if it was done wrong when it came for him winning it on a Impact like two week after BFG. Stupidest is move but his run after that was great.
