I think you guys hyped it up too much. I watched it, and was expecting something a little more than "I disagree"
That said, there's nothing I despise more than that chant, and wish it would just die, already.

I still prefer Big Show's "I don't have to" retort.

Hopefully TNA realizes what they have in ECIII. The guy knows how to roll with punches. Ya, hope TNA picks up the ball here and takes it to the house rather than fumbling like when WWE dropped another great prospect in their laps in The Pope.

I always wanted to see an insecure heel receive that chant, get upset, grab the mic, and yell to the crowd "You can't chant! You can't chant! How do you like that huh? Doesn't feel so good when people are yelling mean things at you does it?"

Well, gotta go back to Brian Pillman for the best example of burning the crowd in his ECW debut.
"Smaaaaaart marrrrrks!"

As a side note, I hate this chant. It always seems to be used against guys who do in fact know how to wrestle. I heard it used against Randy Orton at One Night Stand 2006. You may not like Orton's style, but he is a very good wrestler. Most wrestlers in major companies are at least competent. Sure, use it against Sharmell and Jenna Morasca, but not against actually trained wrestlers like EC3. It also does nothing for their opponents because it goes against kayfabe logic. If you are facing a guy getting these chants and you lose to him, what does that say about you? You must be an even worse wrestler. It just seems pointless and misused most of the time.

It's because it's much more difficult to chant: *We dont care for your preferred style of wrestling!* Clap, clap, clapclapclap!

THAT'S IT???
I was expecting something epic and actually was excited to click on the video, since these chants are common and annoying.
That was the biggest letdown since McDonald's got rid of the McRib.
You people really overhype stuff sometimes.

Yeah, it wasn't bad, but he wasn't exactly owning them or anything. the way I pictured it when it was first described was EC3 working a headlock in a match and shouting it back rather than using a mike. I pictured him shaking his head like he was denying it as he spoke and then after the next chant he'd respond matter of factly "I'm actually quite good." His tone was all wrong here. He shouldn't have counter chanted he should have disagreed firmly but still conversationally

That's pretty good. He didn't need to be profane or deragatory like Taker did.

Russo: We need to give a huge push to someone young and try to make a star, how about ECIII?
Dixie: I don't know, I've been hearing he can't wrestle

The problem was, first, the crowd was expecting him to say that. Secondly the guy is similar to Bo Dallas, he's impossible to hate. Third, crowds have just gotten less and less smarky over time. People are less smarky than they were ever 5 years ago, and of course say, 15 years ago, they were at the apex of smarks and trying to take over a show. Now we're generation later in front of a fed that's doing a ECW nostalgia show. And half of them are as much TNA fans as smarks/ECW fans.
Would have been interesting if they would have gotten red hot heat on him. I bet he would have done awesome stuff to counter that. But it died down fast. NYC is just not what it was.

That's pretty good. He didn't need to be profane or deragatory like Taker did. I liked Taker's comebacks to crowds. It shut the chants down quick. I wished during his last couple of appearances when the crowd was "WHAT"ing him, he morphed into BikerTaker and put them in their place.

EC3's too classy to lower himself to cursing out those fans, he just politely disagreed with them & pointed out their mistake.

I think it worked really well in that he both dismissed the fans whilst allowing them to interact with him.
He wasn't perturbed, it wasn't out of character, it didn't interrupt the flow of his promo as he came down to ringside, it wasn't the greatest thing ever (that would be Hulk Hogan's WHAT-cha gonna do moment) but unlike The Undertaker moment it didn't feel like it was semi-out of character (I know he was bully Booger Red at the time, but still felt out of step)/out of beat with the promo.
Just cool to see an up himself character allowing fans to interact with his promo in an atypical style whilst remaining a bad guy, which in this day and age doesn't happen near enough. Credit to EC3.
