...But I think I laughed maybe twice in the entirety of Spaceballs.

Honestly, it's got some good gags, but a lot of the movie is more "That's kinda cute" than anywhere near as funny as Young Frankenstein, Men in Tights, and Blazing Saddles(outside of its weak ending). As weird as it is, I think a big part of it is that those films had more of a plot, so it feels like less of an onslaught of jokes, with only some of them leaving much of an impact.
A lot of the jokes are probably not that funny, in part, since SO many Star Wars parodies, homages, tributes, or outright ripoffs exist, it's a dry well for material. That wasn't as much the case when the film came out.
It's sort of like, the first guy who ever went on stage and made a joke about airplane food probably killed, or "Take my wife! Please!", but it becomes cliche and worn, regardless of whatever merit it had in its day.

I've seen it and heard the jokes so often that I don't really laugh at it anymore myself, but that's SOP for comedies with me.

There's some really funny jokes, but also a lot of crappy ones.

Thank god, I thought something was wrong with me that I didn't laugh.

It's corny, and once you've seen it, you've seen it; but I still love it.

I think comedy (or at least broad comedy like what Mel Brooks usually does) just doesn't hold up to repeat viewings in general. Most jokes work on the premise that you don't know the punchline already.

A lot of Mel Brooks' comedy doesn't age well. A lot of younger people probably won't get all the Jew jokes.
I'll agree that they are good the first time you watch them, but you get diminishing returns on later viewings.

Saw it once a couple of months ago based on the universal acclaim it had, had its moments but altogether, nothing amazing.

Most jokes work on the premise that you don't know the punchline already. To be fair this was my first viewing, but you could well be replying to others in the thread. Is that so? *Starts taping up fists.* Could you also tell me how adam sandler is an innovator who constantly has fresh new material? And also how you love dane cook. *continues taping fist.* Jesus Christ, man, Mel Brooks has some great movies, don't go dropping me in with the mewling masses just because I didn't like Spaceballs. A lot of Mel Brooks' comedy doesn't age well. A lot of younger people probably won't get all the Jew jokes. I'll agree that they are good the first time you watch them, but you get diminishing returns on later viewings. I do get a lot of the Jew jokes, but getting and finding funny are separate things.

I loved Spaceballs, as to me it was essentially a live action version of Mad Magazine, but i can see where other people wouldnt like it (remember, film critics hated UHF, so film criticism is all in opinion). It is strange that the film is essentially only parodying one source (save for a few throwaway jokes satirizing planet of the apes, alien, and star trek) while other films either parodied one genre (blazing saddles parodied westerns, high anxiety parodied hitchcock, history of the world parodied historical epics) or at least parodied the various takes on a character/story (young frankenstein, robin hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It). That said, im STILL waiting for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money (no, that crappy cartoon on G4 didnt satisfy my desire for that one), especially with all the stuff from the prequels that could be spoofed.

I watched it a few months ago and while I didn't find it that funny - I still loved that teleportation scene as I totally forgot about it this time around. Gave me quite the belly laugh.

It was the first of Brooks' kind of lame genre parodies as opposed to his brilliant comedies that were genre homages. Like Blazing Saddles works as a western and a comedy but Spaceballs doesn't really work as space fantasy in the same way.
