He's a big mouth NOW but when the "well" (ie bank account) is empty or near empty he'll be back kissing Vince's ass....I'm naive on certain things but I sure as hell wasn't born yesterday , I know how the world works and if there's big money to be made...... Depends on how well he invested/how he lives. If he saved a ton, and lives within his means; he won't HAVE to go back.

Well, Rajah is reporting that WWE plans to sue him for breach of contract. Don't know how much this story is worth considering the source but I'm sure there is going to be a thread about this pretty soon.

*The Self Destruction of CM Punk Scene Two*
Daniel Bryan: When I was hired they wanted to put me and Punk together as a tag team to help reignite the tag team division. Punk completely balked at the idea of teaming with me. He said I was a vanilla midget and nowhere near his level. Then he kept bullying me the whole time I was dating Brie Bella because he was jealous that he never got to sleep with her.

House/apartment paid for. Still drives the same car he bought during his time in ROH. Owns a profitable tattoo parlour. Spends his days reading comics, hanging out with his friends, and enjoying married life. Shops in thrift stores. Has no expensive vices. Is a multi-millionaire. Punk's bank account isn't running out of funds any time soon, or ever if he's even half as cheap as people say he is. By all accounts the first half of his WWE run he travelled as if he were on an NXT rookie's salary, and the second half of his run he had enough pull to get the company to pay all his expenses. He's probably barely spent a penny of the money he earned between 2011-2014. Sure, if Vince threw down a Lesnar-style contract on the table in front of him I have no doubts Punk would sign it, but I'm also just as sure that he could afford to actually think about the decision instead of biting Vince's hand off.

Yeah, Punk's finances are likely just fine, this isn't Ric Flair we're talking about, where he's spent his paycheck before he received it.

Dunno how reliable the stories about WWE and litigation against Punk. That sets president going forward and they are very careful. They never fight unless they will win something. They have protected their brand very well in that regard. The Nash/Hall trademark suit was still a win. They got negative attention for wcw within Turner because of the suit. It cost an untold amount in political capital for the company execs down the road. A small win out of a lost battle, but a win that they used. Now if they file suit against him tomorrow than I'm just a bad guesser. But I just don't think they will bother

Why sue a guy for breach of contact after said contract has expired when they could have easily sued him at any point in the six months that he's been gone?

Yeah and Punk seems like the kinda guy that wouldn't roll over, that would actually fight back and call WWE on a lot things they wouldn't want made public.

Not to mention that if the dude wants to make some more money, he can write a couple of books, do a shoot interview, appear at conventions and do things like that. I doubt that he'll ever have to wrestle again unless he really wants to.

It was in an article about celebrity homes a couple of years ago. Punk bought a building for $2m about four or five years ago that has two storeys for his home, and a tattoo parlour on the ground floor that he either owns or collects rent on. Edit: found the article.

Yeah and Punk seems like the kinda guy that wouldn't roll over, that would actually fight back and call WWE on a lot things they wouldn't want made public. I think he's currently the only former WWE main guy with who has nothing to lose as well as having enough money, celebrity connections, and free time to go toe to toe with WWE in court. If it ever comes to that one day, it'll be interesting for sure.

To put Punk's finances into perspective -- he admitted in his DVD that he had the money to "comfortably" retire in 2011 before he re-signed. And this was before 2 and a half years of main event payoffs for both TV and house shows, two matches with Rock, one with Lesnar, one with Taker, and being the 2nd biggest merch mover (and sometimes first) in the company until the day his contract expired. He'll be fine.

He'll be fine. Plus he was able to pay off Joey Mercury's mortgage without thinking twice. People who do stuff like that generally fall into two categories: a) Know they can afford to do so with no long-term complications. b) Flair-types who burn through money because it's there. With everything else we know about Punk, he's certainly in the former category.

All I can say to WWE is, "Ha. Kinda sucks that the whole "independent contractor" thing works both ways, doesn't it?"

Nothing more. If his contract is up in July, and he stops working in February, the absolute most they could get from him is 4 months salary minus his cut of merchandise sold and video game royalties. Now, they would also have to stipulate that he was an actual employee unless he had not fulfilled the number of dates he agreed to. If the former, then they screw themselves and have to pay for insurance and benefits, if the latter, well, then Punk's an idiot for leaving that kind of door for them to walk through. If he agreed to and worked X number of dates, they would be in a lose/lose situation the minute they filed the lawsuit.
