There's been an increase in several trademarks of the Attitude Era - non-PG words are getting tossed around a bit more often again, literal toilet humor has made its return (Roman/Steph) as has purposely-designed controversial gimmicks and angles (a new Nation, Lana) and/or the obligatory "McMahon or someone McMahon is feuding with getting arrested" bit. Characters like Adam Rose would have fit in perfectly during the years of Godfather and Too Cool, the return of over-the-top supernatural stuff (Wyatt's little Johnny), mud matches....I dunno, just seems like they're trying to ease back over into that territory again, at least just a little.

Well it'd make sense. After all it was the last time they were really successful plus if HHH is gaining power, he may have an instinct to introduce elements from his prime years.
As long as it's just taking light inspiration and not a full rerun it should be ok.

Not Full Attitude. It might have some elements, but I still think HHH's ultimate goal is to revert back to 80s NWA style. If anything, what we are watching is the last bit of Vince booking.

I think they will definitively see how far their sponsors will let them go before they pull their ads. The thing is, I think society as a whole is even more desensitized to vulgarity, violence and sex than it was it the late 90's so they could get away with a lot of Attitudinal stuff on RAW, right now, and keep their PG rating.
Lots of what they're doing are regular wrestling tropes, though.
The Rusev angle is pretty much every Patriotic Face VS Post WWII Foreign Heel ever. This is 70's/80's stuff, but since it hasn't been done well in like 20-25 years, it's pretty much new and it works now. "Come to the show to boo this foreign f***" has always paid off in wrestling booking.
But yeah, whoever said he wants it to be 80's NWA, I agree, and what a great thing that will be.

Continuous curse word use will make them lose that alone. While I do think Triple H loves that era of the NWA, he also clearly has an affinity to the way the WWE was run in the late 90's, with an early 90's twist of his character heavy NXT project.

I was just thinking about this yesterday night, mostly because of the likely New Nation. I don't know when the Attitude era ended really, but things seem to be shifting back to around 2007, which is a good thing. (I only started watching in summer of 2001, so I missed out of the prime Attitude Era)
I doubt the WWE will fully go back to 99-200, but maybe the PG era will start to move to a low or regular PG-13. Or to use another example, the Attitude Era was Arrow/Nolan Trilogy. The PG era was Power Rangers. Now seems more like the Marvel Cinematic Universe in tone.

Please bring in a Gay Bear Pimp, Please bring in a Gay Bear Pimp... It took me a second to realize this meant "bear" in the slang term sense, but I was quite intrigued by the idea of a literal bear that was gay and a pimp. I would tune in to see that.

Nope. It's just a little edgier than what the product was compared to about four years ago.
Man, American TV must be really sensitive. In PG rated shows here, there's sex/drug references along with some swearing.

Not even close. Although through some revisionist history the Attitude Era was solely famous for swearing and "edgy" themes, it was its constantly engaging storylines (for the most part), a mass pushing of new talent, and an air of "anything can happen" on all of its programming, all of which made everything in WWF feel genuine and memorable to the fans.
Current WWE is not even close.

If they can take the good parts of the Attitude Era in, I'm fine with that. I don't think they can ever push it that much again - different time, different culture - but there's some wiggle room if they want it.
Not that I've ever had a problem with the PG stuff, mind.

Its hard to write new stuff. They can just copy and paste old scripts then find/replace names.

I love HHH and think that he'll do okay once he takes over but I doubt that once he's in charge things will change that much. Right now is about what the WWE will always be IMO. There will no doubt be dumb "Vince angles" and they will probably get blamed on Stephanie somehow.
