One wrestling character that seems to have gone by the way side is the wrestling cowboy. It (and the closely associated wrestling indian) used to be obiquitous: every fed had one, and in the NWA more than one, southern cultural thing, I guess...
Anyways, who was the best wrestling cowboy?
Will Cowboys ever be fashionable again?

Barry Windham is in my all-time top 5 but I never considered him a wrestling cowboy, even though he did wear the chaps for a while.
Had to vote for Stan, even though I'm partial to Orton and Bass.

When the words "wrestling Cowboy" are said the first person I think of is Sam Houston. Deal with it!

Billy and Bart Gunn, of course!
Well, not really. My mind goes "Cowboy" Bob Orton, but the actual real answer should be Stan Hansen.

Even though I voted for Hansen, the real answer is actually Jimmy Wang Yang.

Stan Hansen without a doubt.
My dad would have said Bob Ellis.

So many viable top candidates not even listed. Blackjack Lanza, Terry Funk (at least his first go-round in WWF), Dutch Mantell (iffy one but there were enough cowboy elements in his gimmick at times), Black Bart, Scott Casey

He's the only wrestling cowboy that would pose a challenge to Hansen.

Harry Smith was gonna be repackaged as a cowboy before they fired him, and yes the booker at that time offered Bret a cowboy gimmick. Stan Hansen without a doubt, I was watching earlier a video of Luke Gallows ripping off Stan and stinking up the joint against a Brody ripoff (Sylvester Terkay) in the IGF, the only highlight of the match was Inoki yelling "Bullshit" and smacking Chono at the back of the head for booking that atrocity.

If you really want to be technical, Bill Watts should probably have this in the bag since he was the actual "Cowboy". Bob Orton also along the same lines. Having said that, whenever I think of violent bad ass cowboy types, that bad man from Borger, TX is at the top of the list followed by Mulligan and Lanza. So many viable top candidates not even listed. Blackjack Lanza, Terry Funk (at least his first go-round in WWF), Dutch Mantell (iffy one but there were enough cowboy elements in his gimmick at times), Black Bart, Scott Casey So right about Terry Funk. He's the only wrestling cowboy that would pose a challenge to Hansen. The All Japan matches between Hansen and Funk, which I believe concluded with a tag between Terry and Dory Jr. vs Hansen and Brody as a Japanese retirement match of sorts for Funk are brutal. So much bad assity in one ring at one time.

In my childhood, Blackjack Mulligan was the living definition of a bad-ass cowboy. Had the height, the mysterious black glove, the evil mustache and just beat the crap out of a guy without breaking a sweat.

I don't disagree with Hansen, but I'm happy to see Blackjack Mulligan (currently) is in second place, though I can understand why some would say Terry Funk as well. I think some fans don't really appreciate how big of a star Mulligan was during the 1970s and early 1980s.
Also, Dusty Rhodes could be considered too. He was a cowboy for much of his career, like when he was aligned with Mulligan.
