I'm more a TS3 player these day, but there was no way I going to pass up not completing my TS2 collection (Missing five items). I do recommend that y'all should play TS3 because it feels more complete than TS2.

Seems more like a 'Please download Origin, we will give you free stuff' ploy EA has been giving away free games on Origin for a few months now. Every month or so, they give away a free game in their "On The House" deal. The three they have done so far are Dead Space, Peggle, and Plants vs. Zombies GOTY edition. So this isn't the first time they gave away something. And it is a good way to get people to try Origin that haven't before.

This is confusing me. Some places say that you need the Sims 2 brought off Origin and others day that you get the Sims 2 free along with the expansion packs. Really hope it's not the former because Sims 2 is not on Origin... Originally that was going to be the rules, had to have bought any of it on Origin. Then they realized that a majority of people had bought the disk based versions, so they just said f' it and launched it to everyone. I believe it is going back to origin purchase only after the 31st though.

That sounds like an awesome deal! It's my favorite of the series. I won't be handling the animals because I'll feel bad if I don't take care of them, but I always wanted to see somebody die by Murphy's Bed.
The only problem is that I don't have any media big enough to download a 12GB game, or the time required to download it.
So, if I get myself an Origin account, I can download Ultimate Sims 2 for free whenever I want to?

Unless EA goes out of business or cancels Origin, or for some reason pulls it off their servers (all highly doubtful) yeah you could install and uninstall it daily if you want.

So what's the deal with EA using Origin to spy on you thing? My sister is currently downloading the game on her computer, and I have no idea on what Origin is on the first place.

Just something that's in Origin's EULA. EA denies using it for that purpose, but they also blatantly tell you that you can't opt out of data collection. For me (and many others) that's just too much of a deal-breaker.

Guys guess what. Steam does it too. From their Privacy Policy:
Collection of Information
By using Valve's online sites, products, and services, users agree that Valve may collect personally identifiable information (as defined below). Valve will not share personally identifiable information with other parties except as described in this policy. Valve may also collect aggregate information and individual information. "Aggregate information" is information that describes the habits, usage patterns, and demographics of users as a group but does not describe or reveal the identity of any particular user. "Individual information" is information about a user or user’s machine that is presented in a form distinguishable from information relating to other users but not in a form that personally identifies any user or enables the recipient to communicate directly with any user. Valve may share aggregate and individual information with other parties without restriction.

Valve, unlike EA, is a good company.

I can agree with that to a point. Thing is it's pretty much standard fair in any digital distribution for the PC anymore. If anyone is that concerned they should encrypt data they don't want anyone seeing.
Thing is if someone is essentially stating "we're scanning your computer when you use our shit, and do what we want with it", and then later in their EULA saying "nope can't sue us either" (it's in both), I don't put anything past either one of them.
From looking at scan logs from both companies (both available on the net with some poking around), just keep crap you don't want no one seeing out of your program files folder and you'll be pretty much good to go. Just seems a shame to pass up a good deal like free Sims 2 and all expansions cause of some tinfoil hat stuff from 3 years ago.

It seems all this spying stuff is more or less a way to determine how software is running on different hardware set ups in order to find out how the software can be more efficient. Same thing has happened in every beta test I have done. Could be much worse I suppose.

Sounds good, but I don't have internet on my home PC. I wished that they could've just mailed me installation CDs of the series. I wouldn't mind one bit.

Another heads up, but if you already have TS2 and etc and you plan on downloading TS2UC, uninstall what you have first before installing TS2UC because I'm now having to redownload TS2UC after uninstalling the ones I already have because of problems I had uninstalling the standalones and having to use an uninstalling program to get rid of them.

I just want to mention that while you need Origin to download the game, you apparently don't need to use Origin to PLAY the game. I know I haven't needed to login to Origin to play it so make of that what you will.

You do need however internet connection for when you play it the first time for whatever reason. After running it the first time, you don't need to have internet connection for the game to run.
