That was pretty weird, huh (you might even say bizarre)? He just returns out of the blue wearing jeans and rocking a really odd theme song that sounded like a bunch of dogs trying to sing heavy metal.
That wasn't the weird part though, the weird part was that they actually seemed to be testing the waters for a main event spot for him. He was in that Six Pack Challenge match for the WWF belt, and even had a mini-feud with The Rock. And it's not like they were hurting for big names in '99, either.
Not that I was complaining, I was always a Davey fan. It just looked pretty out of place. Do you think it was out of guilt for what happened to his brother in law earlier that year?

The only things that I remember are him wearing jeans, tossing something and knocking Stephanie out, and getting slammed into a pile of dogshit. Truly an amazing run.

I will forever remember him for constantly saying at Rebellion "A WANT MA TATTLE SHOT!" and smashing Steph Mcmahon's head with a trash can.

Brought in to be part of a WWF Championship match in September, teaming with the Mean Street Posse by November. Quite a decline.

Didn't he also team with Val Venis or did I dream that?

I remember the jeans. That was depressing.
I can't believe he's a former Hardcore champion.

I remember the first match back he wore his traditional ring gear, and then he thought it was a good idea to wear jeans.

I think th biggest problem was the pacing of matches was so much faster, just from when he left in 1997. I remember some sit down interview with JR hyping his return, where is wife said she took 100 Vicodin on front of him. Anyone else remember this?
To answer an earlier question, I'm pretty sure he teamed with Val Venis in the infamous dog poop match.

Something just didn't feel right and whenever I go back and watch him during this run, I can't help but think of his death, though it isn't like he did right after this run. Even at the time I feared that he came back too soon from his injury in WCW.

Brought in to be part of a WWF Championship match in September, teaming with the Mean Street Posse by November. Quite a decline. It was weird run. I remember him disappearing after the Posse stint and randomly showing up with Kurt Angle during Kurt's Royal Rumble build. And I think his final appearance was of him randomly challenging Eddie for a shot at the European title on Heat and losing in fairly short order. It was a shame how his career ended considering his death shortly after.

I do think part of it was "sorry about Owen, have one last run" but also due to Davey having a really shitty time personally in the late 90s and they thought it would make them look good to give him a chance. We did get him calling HHH "Game Boy" though, so it was worth it.

Bulldog was totally out of place in the late 90s era WWF. And I say that as a huge fan of the guy. To be honest I really try not to even think about his 1999 era run. To me he was done for after the 1-2 punch of the HBK match in England and then Montreal.

I remember him returning on SmackDown as a face and beating Boss Man for the Hardcore title and giving it back to Al Snow.
The next thing I remember, he's heel, semi-allied with Triple H and Shane McMahon, and involved in the WWF title 6-pack challenge.
I have absolutely no memory of how he got from A to B there. None.
