I was somewhere between 6 and 10 so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I had been waiting for a long while to play Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six for NES. Man, was I dissapointed. Cool box art though:

I thought that the Bill and Ted game would be good for some reason.

I know I wasn't the only one who thought it was going to be the arcade fighting game .....if only I looked at the back of the box.

I learned the hard way that games based on one of my all-time favorite TV shows wasn't going to be good, unless it was the Konami arcade beat 'em up. Though "Virtual Bart" and "Bart's Nightmare" weren't too bad.

Not quite that old school, but I thought WWE Raw for the X-Box would be amazing.
I was wrong.

Really, virtually all superhero games were kinda shit until X-Men 2 for Sega or like Maximum Carnage, not counting all the cool arcade games.
It's mysterious. There's like a fifteen-twenty year window in which one of what you would figure would be the strongest concept bases for making a cool, fun game was pissed away time and time and time again.

bart vs the space mutants was awesome. the biggest disappointment for me was playing 'Joe + Mac: caveman ninjas' in the arcade, and then saving up for 6 months before buying it on the NES. massive difference in the games.
