Some pop culture word association. Think of a decade of the late 20th Century/early 21st Century. Who is the first band or musician that pops into your mind when you think of that decade? Put your answers in spoilers, so that it doesn't prime other posters. Mine: The 60's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{The 60s}The Doors The 70's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{The 70s}Led Zeppelin The 80's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{The 80s}A Flock of Seagulls The 90's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{The 90s}Nirvana The 2000's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{The 2000s}Honestly...I got nuthin'. The decade's all a boring, drab blur to me. And I lived through it, no less.

Great idea! 60's {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Beatles. Period. 70's {Spoiler}This one's tough; I'll say KISS. What they brought to the table in terms of theatrics (even though they weren't the first theatrical act) was revolutionary for the time, and in '77 they were voted in a Gallup Poll as the most popular band in America. If not KISS then I'll give it to Zeppelin because they influenced just as many rock bands as The Beatles did. 80's {Spoiler}It's got to be MJ, right? I mean, Madonna was a huge Pop act, too, but Jackson was truly something special and he dominated the 80's. 90's {Spoiler}This is where it gets tough for me because this is the time period I was around for. Logic says Nirvana because they changed the entire music landscape damn near overnight, but is that really accurate? I mean, for the early 90's it's them hands down, but 90's popular music would change so much by the mid 90's and then again by the late 90's that I'm not sure I can give it to just one artist. 2000's {Spoiler}Honestly, the first person that came to mind is Lady GaGa; the only thing holding me back is how late into the 2000's she came into the picture. Beyonce, maybe? The 2000's are a tough, tough decade because the internet really opened up the floodgates for numerous bands, so it's not as clear cut as other decades are, in my opinion.

Tough, but as long as this SOLELY refers to the output of artists in a certain decade off the top of my head, inherent bias applies for the last two decades but *shrug*: {Spoiler}{Spoiler} 1960s: The Beach Boys/Glen Campbell
1970s: David Bowie/Richard O'Brien
1980s: Oingo Boingo/The Sisters of Mercy
1990s: Manic Street Preachers/Faith No More
2000s: Electric Six/King Adora
2010s: Eureka Machines/Jackdaw4

1970s: David Bowie/Richard O'Brien
1980s: Oingo Boingo/The Sisters of Mercy
1990s: Manic Street Preachers/Faith No More
2000s: Electric Six/King Adora
2010s: Eureka Machines/Jackdaw4 Interesting list. The Manics are an odd one in that they basically had some degree of success throughout most of the world with the only real exception being North America. They were/are as prolific as any band going in the 90s though. Richard O'Brien is also an odd choice for me as when I think of these things I tend to only think of bands or singer/songwriters. I guess he technically counts in that regard. If I had to come up with something, it would have to look like: 60s: Beatles/Rolling Stones 70s: Led Zeppelin/David Bowie 80s: Depeche Mode/R.E.M. 90s: Radiohead/Pearl Jam (I'd consider the Manic Street Preachers here, but to those in North America who have never heard of them, they may disagree) 00s: The White Stripes/The Black Keys/Foo Fighters 10s: At this point in time, my vote goes to St. Vincent. Not sure who else I'd go with yet.

60s - Beatles/Stones 70s - Bee Gees or Eagles had the most defined sound of the times. Zeppelin for the rest. 80s - Michael Jackson 90s - Nirvana(Early) Garth Brooks (middle) Backstreet Boys/Britney(late) - Arguably Britney had the biggest influence of any of them, she proved you didn't have to be able to sing to be an immensely successful singer. 00s - Eminem/Linkin Park(rise of manufactured rock) 10s - Bieber/Adele/The Cast of Glee

Call me delusional, but I think the musician of the 1970's is Elvis Presley. Put out his best music in that decade, revived himself at Las Vegas, Made 2 Concert movies (That's The Way It Is and Elvis on Tour) had the huge Aloha show, and in the year he died (1977) he was the top touring artist while only being alive for 8 months out of the year.

I shouldn't have read all of your guys posts before thinking of my own :/ Now all I can think of is what you've put ... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Although being a 90's kid from the UK I'll have to say The Spice Girls for the 90's.
