I've seen a lot of old footage from back in the 80's all the way to the mid 90's, and I've noticed the ring had a different sound when the wrestlers were slammed into it compared to today. Does anybody know why that is?

Does anybody know why that is? It's not the same ring. They actually used to have a much stiffer ring, and not long after King of the Ring '98, they switched to rings with more give.

Was it because of Mick Foley in the HIAC?

Kanye West revolutionized the game son. That's what happened!
When he released Through the Wire in '04 it changed the business forever. Hip-hop, fashion, pro-wrestling, marrying porn stars. Kayne took it all to another level.

I don't think they ever said, though Mick feels like he likely played a part in it. I think there had been a drive to do that for a while, since they no longer were working with NBC, who had insisted on the stiffer ring to begin with, reasoning it looked better on TV.

Ironically Mick also said that the new rings hastened his retirement because they were so much bouncier that it f***ed up his knees more.
