That's pretty damn scummy that WWE is trying to force Rey, who has busted his ass for the company for years at the expense of his health, to keep working for them when he's finally ready to settle down. Jesus Christ, no wonder Punk walked away if this is the type of shit they try to pull. I mean, I get the contract clause and everything, but the guy keeps getting re-injured every time he returns. If even Rey has finally reach the conclusion that it's time to hang it up, why try to force more miles out of him? I thought Rey was considering going to work for the AAA branch that was supposedly coming into the US.

Assuming Rey still plans to continue his career, whether in WWE or elsewhere, I really hope he takes as much time as he needs to get healthy (and in good shape, the question mark tank tops aren't cutting it). And then when he comes back, hopefully he can recreate himself similar to the way Keijii Mutoh did after knee injuries made it impossible to wrestle his old style. I think Rey is talented enough to pull it off and would still be extremely popular even if he's not taking crazy bumps or moving with incredible speed.

WWE should've just allowed Rey to go and reallocated their investments elsewhere.

Happiest man with these news must be Vince McMahon... with all the money he's been bleeding lately, he must be glad if someone DOESN'T cash their checks!

It makes WWE look so petty. He doesn't want to be there, you're paying him to sit on the sidelines. LET HIM GO.
I don't even understand it. Are they that scared to let anyone with any name value go?

I don't understand why they bother paying Rey Mysterio another year, but then let go 11 guys for budget cuts.

Would have been nice to see Rey work a program with Kalisto and give him the rub.

How? Ray Ray owes an "x" amount of hours to the WWE. It's awful that he got injured, but he is obligated to fulfill is contract whether or not he is cashing in the checks. I lost a lot of respect for this mediocre wrestler and hope he has a difficult time finding another job if he does weasel his way out. That's like LeBron getting hurt and missing a season and the Cavs trying to add another year because he "owes" them x amount of games per season. If Rey signed a 3 year deal when that three years is up he should be able to go free regardless. That's why it's bullshit. If the WWE guys are dumb enough to sign deals where they have to make a certain amount of dates instead of for a certain amount of years I don't know what to say. Good analogy. The only difference is this is exhibition, planned out in advance. This is comparable to a motion picture budget. When an actor gets injured, the production schedule gets altered. Accommodations must be made. Harrison Ford broke his ankle filming Star Wars. Production is down now because of his injury.

I hope Rey cashes all of his checks just as he's about to be released. Flips them off "That was for the Eddie angle, and signing Sin Cara to replace me, booyaka booyaka bitch!" Although I don't know if it's legal for him to do it.

Rey Mysterio threads are some of the worst threads I've ever read on here. I think my IQ drops 10 points every time I read one.

This guy murdered himself for this company "That's the spirit!" I am a terrible, terrible person for laughing at this.

In one of the early issues of Spider-man, he gets paid for either a showbiz thing or a good deed..something; but the check is made out to Spider-man rather than Peter Parker cuz of the whole secret identity thing.
Well he goes to the bank as Spidey, and the teller's all "I need some ID."
Presumably being able to crawl walls and shit ain't good enough.
Well, Pete naturally doesn't have a license that says Spider-man, so he pretty much now has a worthless check.
Same thing probably happened here.
"Sir, do you have any idea how many Rey Mysterio masks the WWE has sold?"
The lesson here kids? Don't wear a mask.
SRS Jericho tried to warn him.

yeah I don't believe this at all. I dont think WWE has any delusions about Rey actually competing again; they just extended his contract so they can keep marketing his merch, and probably so they could give him a bit of bonus pay for all his hard work. plus if they do this he can't go work somewhere else and cripple himself like Angle.

How much merchandise are they really moving for a guy that isn't even on TV right now and hasn't been in forever? I don't get it. Just let the guy go. In the grand scheme of things Rey doesn't mean a whole lot. The fact that WWE has yet to find any replacement lucha guy is pretty sad really.

Would have been nice to see Rey work a program with Kalisto and give him the rub. Kalisto doesn't need a rub from Rey. Push him whether Rey's around or not. WWE needs to get out of the mindset of some farce of a "torch passing" of being the new "token Lucha guy". That's the problem. They're only thinking of Lucha guys as a "new Rey Mysterio" as opposed to what they actually bring to the table as an individual performer.

Rey has nothing to offer any more, honestly. Just let him retire, and there's precious little room on the roster for more former world champions as it is between the current old guys, the part timers, and the hotter younger guys breaking through finally.
