I was just thinking back on this time, I think he was in serious training for a run at the Warrior's world title and Bobby assured the women there would be no more rude awakenings after his matches until he beat the Warrior.
Then he gets to Summerslam and pisses it all away and is later let go for talking about Big Bossman's mother if I remember correctly.
I was thinking about this because I was reading an old article about how after he won the IC title earlier, he still seem preoccupied with posing and kissing women after the match and they thought that would be his downfall.
So what did you think of this tail end of Rick's original run? How long did it last exactly? Would rick have made a good world champion?
Am I forgetting anything?

Though I'm a fan of any version of Rude, personally I preferred the short-haired serious Rude. After he cut his hair, he looked bigger to me and just seemed like a legit threat, as opposed to the long-haired Rude who was more like a comedy heel who could only get ahead by cheating.
Would Rude have made a good World champ? No doubt, in terms of heels he was one of the best. He was a good talker and his work in the ring was certainly solid and dependable.
As good as Rude's WWE run was, I prefer his WCW run even more.

If Rude hadn't gotten injured, he absolutely should have beaten Ron Simmons for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade 92.

Short haired serious Rude was one of my favourite personas.

It seemed like Rude was finished by late 1990 and the times were turning to guys who hadn't had big pushed for a few years prior. Like a King Kong Bundy, Rick Rude already had a upper card feud with Warrior as IC champ and when Warrior was HW champ. Mr. Perfect had been an upper card guy waiting, Dibiase was always a top guy, Slaughter was coming in. For a guy like Rude or Earthquake, going down the card was the only option. If he hadn't been injured, I can definitely see him as a wrestler helping usher in the beginning of the Attitude Era.

The thought of Rude being let go for talking about the Bossman's mother is hilarious when one considers all of the things that Bossman did when he was super over the top evil heel Bossman messing with Al Snow and the Big Show.

I've done a 180 on Rude's hair. I used to prefer the longer hair, but man...in hindsight I through he looked far more badass with short hair. I know he won the International WCW title, but I can't believe he was never a bigger player because he had the look, the skill, the ability and just exhibited everything I would want out of a heel.

Rick Rude looked like the absolute definition bad-ass after he cut his hair short. I preferred his WCW run by a long shot. It was a clear indication of how well he would have worked as a main event heel. The "Black Cat" rip-off theme was also the best he ever had, IMO. It made him seem so much more like a threat than the stripper theme did, but it didn't change the gimmick very much at all. If you haven't heard it, here's his original WCW theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjah-yKhJCE

Luger may have been the champion, but Rude was unquestionably the top heel during the Dangerous Alliance era. He made the US Title seem more prestigious than the World title.

I like "I'm Not Dan Severn, Promise" Rick Rude most.

Had he stayed, an angle with Randy Savage post Wrestlemania 7 over Elizabeth would have been cool assuming they did the reunion without the retirement.
Then against Bret Hart for the IC Title. He defo had legs left in him especially since he had modified his attitude.

I can't even imagine how good the exact same angle Savage ran with Ric Flair for Wrestlemania 8 would have been with Rude in Flair's place. It seems like a more natural fit, and the fact that we didn't get a Savage/Rude program is a crime.

Rick Rude with short hair reminds me of Dan Severn, albeit with a body that is considerably more toned, and cooler, always unique tights (I don't remember seeing Rude wear tights with the same airbrushed design on more than one occasion, but then again, I think I only saw Rude wrestle on WCW PPVs and never on the promotion's televised programs).

One thing that WCW got over the WWF: Top badass heel Rude. He was just great. How the hell he's not in the HOF yet?

It always surprises me that he was so young when he died. He was still only 31 when he jumped from WWF to WCW, the guy would've had a lot of years left in him if he hadn't gotten injured.

My guess is he was inspired by Jermaine Jackson.

I'm in the minority but I've always liked the "stripper" Rude. To me the theme, combined with his look and in ring work was awesome and easily one of my all-time favorite heel characters.
With that said, short haired Rude was awesome.

The most surreal thing about Rude was when he shaved his stache. Clean shaven Rude was weird.
