So Madusa never officially defected to WCW, they fired her while still being Champion. She then signed with the competition.
Are there any other cases of champions getting released while being champion, I guess the Womens Title has had a few. Rockin Robin. Although I dont think Chyna counts as I think they vacated the belt on TV just before they officially released her so she wasnt champion when she was fired.

Ric Flair from WCW in 1991 while still world champion.

The Alunda Blaze thing is odd. If they fired her, then can you blame her for angrily throwing the belt in the bin like that?

Chyna counts. When she disappeared, the title went with her, and when they brought it back a few months later, there was no mention of why it was vacant.
Shows how much the WWF valued the Women's title that on 3 separate occasions, they fired the champion without asking her to lose the title first.

Didn't Lenny Lane get fired/released while he was cruiser weight champ? I seem to recall they threw the belt on someone else, (Psychosis?) with little or no explanation.
EDIT: never mind. He was stripped off the title, and taken off TV, but not fired.

Jeff Jarrett, kind of, sort of, as IC champ in '99. He was champion and his contract expired the day before No Mercy, then he says he'll work the PPV and drop the title to Chyna if he's payed a boatload of cash, which Vince McMahon begrudgingly accepts. If memory serves me right, it was JR who "let" JJ's contract expire without looking at the dates.

Meng left with the WCW hardcore championship they were to scared to strip him, so they let him keep it. Man Haku did sucked during his 2000 run, don't tell him I said that please.

This was around the time I started going to online wrestling communities, I remember reading she contract was up soon, and was shocked when she retained against Lita at Judgement Day, then disappeared.

I'm pretty sure WWE fired some OVW wrestler while they were in developmental while he was one half of the OVW tag team champions.

Almost an example; Curry Man was let go just before he was clearly going to win the coincidentally named Fired Championship.

The Alunda Blaze thing is odd. If they fired her, then can you blame her for angrily throwing the belt in the bin like that? Because anything ever done in WCW was pure evil and designed to take the food out of the mouths of the little babies of WWF employees.

Meng didn't get fired, he left on his own accord and signed with WWF a week after winning the hardcore title at Sin. It's been stated that when he did leave, he gave the belt to Barbarian to give back to them. Whether or not Barbarian ever actually *did* is another matter (and that they quietly dropped the HC title after Meng left tells me that he might not have).

In fact, now that I think about it, I seem to recall seeing news sites reporting that Barbarian was using the title on the indy circuit after that.

Yeah Chyna left TV in May, the title was vacated on TV in early November and her contract expired on Nov 30th. So reason or not they took the title off her whilst still employed.
Jarrett is a really good example and extremely shocking given the Blayze scenario that they let that slip, during that time too. Legally he probably couldn't have done anything though but Russo would have found a way of using it

Funny thing is when they quietly dropped Rockin Robin as champion and contracts I'm sure we're different then, she continued to use and defend the title on the Indy circuit, ironically I have seen a match from 1991 where she defended it against Madusa who would eventually win the vacant version and then also leave with it
