Not surprised, as Champ has been terrible for a few years now.
Hopefully someone picks Sam up, he proved that he can play at the NFL level.

I wouldn't say no to the Niners picking him up. He fits with the Niners offense, and I sure as f*** would have more confidence in Pryor as backup QB than Blaine Gabbert. Blaine Gabbert is so bad anybody who can throw a football is a better backup than him. I still can't believe the guy beat the Colts two years ago. "Challenge accepted."

I'd even accept him over Gabbert. 49ers fans have a legitimate fear with Kaepernick getting hurt that signing Pryor would be a logical choice.

Blaine Gabbert is so bad anybody who can throw a football is a better backup than him. I still can't believe the guy beat the Colts two years ago. "Challenge accepted." He keeps finding work, which amazes me. I got to watch every damned one of his snaps for the Colts. He can perform against backups, but against starters he just cannot handle the speed and latent talent of starting defensive players. He gets caught flat footed so often that it is no wonder that he just cannot square up in order to throw straight. In a sense, the Colts were a little lucky the way things worked out. They had Manning, but he was out for the season. They had Collins at backup, but he was signed so late that he had not learned the system yet. Because they had Collins as the #2, the choice between Painter and Orlovsky at #3 came down not to who was better (Orlovsky) but who was cheaper (the Colts had cap space issues). Why was that lucky? When Orlovsky was resigned and eventually supplanted Painter, he damned near played them out of the #1 draft pick that landed them Luck. Had Collins been signed earlier and had the whole camp to learn the blocking schemes he might not have gotten hurt and he would have played well enough to keep them from getting Luck. Thank you, Curtis, for sucking. Seriously, thank you. I don't know that I could have stomached having to wait for Tannenhill of someone like him to have figured out how to play at a starter's level. Fortunately, my team drafted Luck and I don't have to.

"Challenge accepted." I'd even accept him over Gabbert. 49ers fans have a legitimate fear with Kaepernick getting hurt that signing Pryor would be a logical choice. Really? Him over Gabbert? Gabbert stinks, but Painter was even worse. Pryor on the other hand would make sense as a backup. Decent enough arm, decent enough quarterbacking skills, but fragile. It's reasonable to be concerned about Kaepernick getting hurt; it's reasonable to wonder that about any quarterback. As a Ravens fan I know that if Flacco gets hurt, we're doomed, because Tyrod Taylor is in no way good enough to play in his spot (he also plays nothing like Joe does, so we'd have to retool our playbook, blocking, and everything else to suit him). Why we never made a move for Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton, Colt McCoy or Mark Sanchez boggles my mind. We need a backup so very badly and we, like San Fran, have a good enough team that if we had any one of those four, it's not impossible to make it to the Super Bowl if the rest of the team is up to snuff. He keeps finding work, which amazes me. I got to watch every damned one of his snaps for the Colts. I'm a firm believer that Suck for Luck was a legitimate strategy and they plugged Orlovsky in to placate anyone who smelled a rat. When Orlovsky did a damn fine job as quarterback despite his inexperience with his new team, he almost blew it out of the water. Luckily for Indy fans, half of his games were against New England and Baltimore, two of the very best teams that year. That's another guy I wish Baltimore picked up as backup. Orlovsky's not a well-known player so we'd have been able to get him for chump change.

Orlovsky's not a well-known player so we'd have been able to get him for chump change. Look, I, for the record, NEVER had any faith in Curtis Painter. He was the final nail in Bill Polian's GM career, because this guy was expected to be a servicable backup to Peyton Manning in the unlikely event something should happen. All he was was nothing more than a blowhard with artificially enhanced stats when he was playing for Purdue. He was so bad and immune to common sense that I nicknamed him "Captain Dumbass", and believe me when I say that the 2011 season was downright appalling and the only reason why we won 2 games was because Dan Orlovsky didn't want to be the answer to a trivia question. I was so pissed and scared after the Colts beat Houston that we would lose out on the Suck for Luck campaign and have to settle for RG III, so when they lost to Jacksonville, I was so relieved. I agree with Dr. T; how he (and Jim Caldwell) keep getting employment astounds me, but as wretched as Painter is, Gabbert is even worse. Whether this was eternal damnnation by starting your career on a very bad team or just not having the intangibles, I would have no faith in him.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports new Bills QB Kyle Orton will make $5 million this season.
As former Rotoworlder Chris Wesseling points out, that's as much as Josh McCown is making this season.
Christian Ponder has made the Vikings' 53-man roster.

McCown- Stater
Something seems wrong with that.

Whether this was eternal damnnation by starting your career on a very bad team or just not having the intangibles, I would have no faith in him. Looking at the stats, I think Painter was definitely a worse starter than Gabbert. Gabbert has way fewer interceptions and fumbles per snap than Painter does, and bear in mind, Painter had a heck of a receiver corps to throw to (Clark, Tamme, Garcon, Collie and of course, Reggie Wayne). Gabbert didn't have that. Of course, I'll agree with you that yes, Blaine Gabbert is awful. I just happen to think Curtis Painter is even more awful. About Jim Caldwell: I KNOW RIGHT? He improved Baltimore's offensive playbook in his first year here, but got complacent and did a really terrible job with the playcalling after we won the Super Bowl. And John Harbaugh delegates a lot of duties to his coordinators, so there's no doubt that he had a hand in it. I'm so glad we got Gary Kubiak to replace him; because if there's anything Kubiak knows, it's how to run a pass-heavy offense.

With an average age of 27.0, the Raiders are the oldest team in the NFL following Saturday's cuts.

Orton is going to end up playing for the Bills. Either Manuel will get hurt or be so bad they have to put him on the bench.

Curtis Painter is godawful. I'm just glad the Giants cut him and Nassib's looked pretty good in the preseason.

I seen some people already trying to make a story out of Sam getting cut Only story to make out of it is the one that was happening from the beginning of training camp, the Rams were stacked at the position that Michael Sam was competing for and it was a near impossible climb to begin with for him.
